Hundreds of thousands of years ago, the gods gave humans fire. Fire led the humans to advance their civilization, it led them to culturing themselves, and it gave them a sense of power over other lower creatures they never could have fathomed. But fire wasn't good enough. Monsters from the different pantheons were killing humans, and the demigods didn't have enough power to stop them all. So Zeus, the King of Olympus, ordered Hecate, the goddess of magic, to put up a barrier between the Divine and the Mundane. Hecate put up a shield of magic and, upon seeing it, named it the Mist. In doing so, she unknowingly gave humans something much greater than fire. Magic.
