„You would have to give up yourself for him. You would be leaving yourself behind. You can never be The Captain of the Guard and the wife of the Prince of the Woodlandrealm. That's not possible."
Her eyes widened in disbelieve. She always was aware of the fact that she would never be good enough for him. She never thought that the king would accept her relationship with the prince in the first place. Never thought their love would find approval. To be honest: she never thought that they had a future. Always thought they would be torn apart by his father.
„I would have to give up who I am for him? But wouldn't I be giving up him too then?"
„How do you mean that?"
„He loves me for who I am. I am the Captain of the Guard."
„You will never be enough."
A single tear made its way down her cheek.
„But I am!", she screamed. „I am!"
„Liar."
„No, no. I'm not! Why are you saying that? Stop!"
She shaked her head, grasped her hair. Why? She asked herself. Why wouldn't they stop telling her those terrible things?
She sat down on the bed she shared with her soon to be husband. Or maybe not?
Never enough.
She took a vase from the nightstand and threw it against the wall. She screamed in agony and sunk on her knees.
You are never enough. Never enough. Never enough.
„I'm never enough.", she whispered.
Then she decided something. Something which would turn her life upside down.
She stood, grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. Then she wrote her last words to her beloved.
Only four words.
I am never enough.
Then she laid the note on the bed and left. She never saw Legolas reading the note and never saw him cry for the loss of his beloved. She never saw him become the King of the Woodlandrealm. Never saw him marry another woman. Never saw him become a father. Never saw him read her note every night before going to sleep. She will never know that he still loved her. Never know that she was enough. Never know that he would have given up everything for her.
She just left. She left and never came back.
