Warm beer is seen as a delicacy for the guys, a chance to sit back for a few moments, exchange words that have been loosened by alcohol consumption and feel the dull but prominent warmth as taut muscles relax slightly and guards are slackened.

There are times when it gets even better; when the beer is ice-cold and the sun is setting over the horizon and Bobby has just lit a freakin' barbecue amidst the scattered car parts. When there is silence enough to hear the bottles clink together, it's a good day.

"Where's your apron?" Dean snarks as he watches Bobby carry a cracked tray towards the makeshift cooking station. The set up is just an old wooden table covered in oil and sanitised by rubbing an even dirtier rag across the surface. Sam's more of a germ-freak than Dean, but even he doesn't mind.

Bobby shakes his head as he sets down the tray of steak, fails to answer straight away and instead reaches forward to pluck at the barbecue fork.

"I'd save any comments 'til your dinner is done, boy. I might just be tempted to blacken it up real good for ya."

Dean's eyes instantly widen and he chokes a little on the gulp of beer he just sucked from the bottle. "I'll behave." He insists, pulling his thumb and forefinger along his lips as though sealing them up. "That just looks too friggin' good to ruin." He motions towards the grill that sizzles as the red meat is forked on.

"Yeah, Bobby." Sam echoes from his position, crouched down on some box or other that acts as a stool. "This is great. I don't think we've ever..."

Dean tilts his head to look at his brother, raises an eyebrow as he realises that he's right; he can't ever remember having a barbecue with Sam. The only grilling they ever do is... he loses his train of thought, realises that some moments are best enjoyed without thinking too deeply. Of course with all the crap going on recently it's hard to leave it behind, but after three ice-cold bottles of beer, it's almost enough alcohol to relax him. Almost.

Ten minutes later when they are alternating between chewing steak and sipping beer, Dean gets the chance to watch Sam's smile and hear Bobby's laughter. It is definitely a good day.
