Eat Your Heart Out
The boy is aware of the limits regarding what he can do and the girl is grappling with a power too great to harness. He is patient with her, gentle in the way he talks, and an overwhelming realization is made present. If they are to stop the whole world, it is easier to do so together rather than alone.
They begin to trust each other with a ferocity no one dares try to comprehend. Their friendship is made sturdy as they learn to understand one another.
His powers are maintainable, if not entirely controllable, but lethal all the same. He has options. She, however, is a chaotic mess. Rather than mastering her abilities, she had painfully restricted herself. A power so great that was suppressed for so many years did not just lie dormant.
She solemnly stares at her toes, blood red hair dripping over her shoulders, "I lost control."
She's dangerous, hopelessly flawed in several places. Raw power leaks from those cracks and he can sense it, even when he's not powered up or taking on the traits of his mutant form. Memories cloud his mind, bringing him back to the summer days when they found something in each other: the boy with a tricked out watch and his cousin who had all the luck in the world. Somehow, aside from all their bickering and arguing, they were able to fix each other. "We're lucky that Kevin was able to bring you back."
Nodding slightly, there is a quiver in her voice when she whispers, "I know."
It scares him when she goes mute. He leans forward, "How do you feel?"
In her mind she burns through sentences, desperately trying to select the word that embodies her feelings. "Numb… Not quite empty… but drained." She frowns, propped against the wall like a torch without a flame. "I feel like I'm ten again."
A/N: I never really put focus on Ben in my fics, so I thought I'd try it out for once. It's challenging for me to decipher the relationship between him & Gwen, to be honest. That's mainly because of the five year gap between the regular show and Alien Force. Anyways, I at least hope this was a pleasing attempt. Feedback would be appreciated! ^-^
