"If we open a quarrel between past and present, then we shall find that we have lost we future"
-Winston Churchill
Somewhere in the vast cosmos of the universe, there rests a strange world known by many of it's inhabitants as Tern. These inhabitants live on a large group of continents and islands, known as the Masses. They have never left this group of land masses because of the massive dome of energy that surrounds it; the Skydome. None know where it came from, or how it functions. But they know that they are not the first beings to live in this place; the ruins and reminders of civilizations past lie scattered all around. But leftovers of the past are not considered important. The Masses are entering a new age, one that many hope will bring about peace and scientific advancement. Yet despite the hopes of these few idealists, the Seven Races remain divided as they have since their civilization arose. There is peace, but tensions are high after the Great War which nearly cracked the world apart.
10,000 years ago on this world, a machine fell from the sky. It would bring immeasurable pain and misery with it.
5,000 years ago two great empires fell. They left behind tools for the next cycle of evolution: a keystone to survival.
3,000 years ago a city built in a desert disappeared, taking an ancient weapon with it.
2,000 years ago a living machine was built in the core of the galaxy. He left for the strange world and found dark secrets waiting.
750 years ago the Seven Races met, brought together by chance. Or possibly something more.
42 years ago a man worked himself to death in the mines. His son swore to end suffering and a relic he found was taken away by those who ruled.
18 years ago a boy who would become something great was born.
6 years ago two men built a machine that thought for itself. It fled and the men began work on a far greater being.
And in the present, somewhere in the fringes of the star cluster that this world rested in, an ancient robot cruelly smiled to himself.
Because he was certain that all of this was happening for a reason.
