PROLOGUE
A carnival was nothing without feathery, shiny masks; talented minstrels; cheerful people and of course street performers… Young lady put on her navy-blue, silver costume and went on the stage… It was not the time of performing but she and her colleagues had to prepare the area for Carnivale… She lifted a heavy box of decorations but she was not strong enough… She staggered and fell along with the box. "Merda!" she hissed.
-Looks like you are in trouble with the ornaments, a man said with a soft French accent. Young lady glanced up and saw a noble; she smiled and stood up with the help of the man.
-Grazie, signore… I haven't seen you before in the Carnivale with the other noble families of Italia; it seems to me that you are not from here…
With a huge smile on the face, the man answered: "Yes yes…" They looked at each other's eyes for a moment. "How deep…" the young lady thought, she was truly fascinated… But the magic was broken with the harsh and uncaring sound of the boss…
-What are you doing here? You have lots of work to do, the Carnivale is about to start…
Young lady bowed her head. When the boss turned in another direction, the man looked at the young lady again.
-Nice to meet you… err…
-Anetta, she answered. The man raised her hand and kissed elegantly.
Jules, he whispered. "Hope we'll have a chance to see each other again Mademoiselle"
-Please stay here, at the Carnivale; I'm sure you'll enjoy it…
CHAPTER 1
I tied my chestnut hair and dyed my pale lips with the color violet. A noble in a clown costume, yes that was ridiculous! Fiora had mentioned that before but I had to take revenge from those who made my family suffer. The assassins, they had murdered my mother and father, not sure why… When my brother and I had found the dead bodies… I went crazy, I didn't know what to do, for a long time I felt lost… But then I met the Borgias, the youngest member of the family, well I think his name was Cesare, told us he would help us to take our revenge… According to the plan we had to wear silly-clown costumes and entertain people and when we find our target… I looked at my barbed dagger and smiled in a sly way… I would stab my victim in the throat and watch him bleed, suffer and beg for forgiveness but no… I wouldn't show any mercy after what they had done before… I heard a knock on the door; quickly I hid my blades and turned to the entrance to see my visitor. Fortunately it was Cahin, my brother. He sat next to me; he didn't say a word… For moments, we waited in silence; I was getting worried for him… Well, Cahin was not mentally strong as me, he was pensive and confused; also he was a bit clumsy and impatient… I took a pinch of his long, untidy hair and put behind his ear in order to reveal his face. His eyes were burning with flames; he was clenching his teeth with all his force. I held his hand tightly and looked directly in his eyes.
-We are so close to our aim; they'll pay for what they'd done. I am ready for the day of my life. Are you too?
He just stared at my face, but then unexpectedly he answered my question.
-Let's do it, let's split those pigs' blood…
