"Cas, look here" Gabriel lightly shook a small stuffed animal back and forth in front of the toddler. Castiel was staring past him through the doorway at his brothers, Michael and Lucifer, fighting in the other room. Balthazar, who had been holding Cas in his lap, pressed his hands over the small angel's ears. The yelling was becoming intense, scaring Castiel so much that he was shaking. Gabriel extended his hand out and closed the door so that the screaming wasn't as loud.
"Hey, Cas." He moved the cat plush back and forth again. "Want to see something cool?" Castiel's gaze shifted from the door to Gabriel. He smiled as Gabriel snapped his fingers and made the cat stuffed animal come to life. Gabriel let the cat down and it walked over to Castiel who lightly petted its fur. Balthazar grinned at his brother for his quick thinking and mouthed "good job" to him. The arguing from the other room had calmed down as the brothers heard a door slam. It was quiet after that. Balthazar waited a few moments before slowly taking his hands off Castiel's ears.
Castiel was too entranced by the robust tabby cat now laying in his lap to notice. He stroked its back softly while listening to it purr. "Does he have a name?" Cas asked with bright blue eyes and Gabriel smiled.
"No, he doesn't." He reached out to pet the cat as Castiel held it lovingly in his arms. "Would you like to give him a name?" Castiel's face lit up as he nodded. "Alright, what do you want to name him?"
"Hmmm..." He looked off as he twisted his lips from side to side as he thought. "I think I'll name him Dean."
"Dean it is then." Gabriel smiled as he moved over to sit closer to his brothers. They took turns petting the cat until they all fell asleep.
