1941
"Jews out! Jews out!" The Nazi's chanted as they paraded down the streets, dragging Jewish men, women, and children, from their homes. As soon as she heard the shouts, Maureen grabbed her girlfriend by the hand, rushing her down to the basement.
"Angel! Mark! Mimi!" She called up the stairs, hiding Joanne deep inside a closet. A moment later, Collins and Roger ran down the steps, their faces serious and shaken. Angel and Mimi clung to each other, and Mark ran into the closet, taking Angel and Mimi with him. Maureen quickly shut the closet door, and ran back upstairs, just as the Nazi's barged inside.
"Jews out! Jews out!" They shouted, searching the house. Maureen grabbed onto Collin's hand, and firmly grabbed onto Roger's arm, placing him next to her. "Who's the negro?" One of the Nazi's asked, eyeing Collins, who hung his head. Maureen's gripped onto his hand, clearing her throat.
"M-my h-husband," She chocked, turning her face away. She hated pretending to be married to Collins. They were like brother and sister. She could tell that he hated to do it also, even if Angel was ok with it. Joanne said it was for the best. The Nazi looked towards Roger, and eyed him suspicously. "My brother..." Maureen mumbled, averting her gaze. As much as she hated lying, she felt empty when she did it tot he Nazi's. They continued their search on the top floor, and made their way downstairs. Maureen nervously gripped onto Collin's hand, causing him to grit his teeth. "Sorry," She whispered.
"Jews out! Jews out!" The Nazi's screamed from downstairs. Maureen's insides froze. They found them. They found Joanne.
"I'm not Jewish!" Joanne shouted, as they dragged her up the stairs. "Get the fuck off of me!" She growled, shoving herself from their grip. They tackled her and put her in a hold. Maureen stepped forward to help, but Joanne pushed her back. "No! They'll take you away to." She argued, still fighting with the Nazi's.
"If you're not Jewish, then why were you hiding?" Growled one of them. Maureen shook her head not to tell, but Joanne sighed. "Tell us! Or your little friends are coming with us." He laughed, eyeing Maureen hungrily. She shifted uncomfortably. Another Nazi came out from the basement, pulling Mimi and Angel by the hair. A moment later, Angel's wig came off, causing the Nazi's to shake with laughter. Angel hung her head, ashamed. "Haha, filthy bastard." They laughed, pushing Angel out the door. Collins held back tears, whispering to Angel that he loves him before he was taken away. Mimi clung to Roger, tears flooding from her eyes. "Tell us!" The Nazi twisted Joanne's arm behind her back, and she gritted her teeth.
"Lesbian." She said between her teeth, squeezing her eyes shut. The Nazi's scoffed, taking her out the door. Joanne took one last look at Maureen, and turned her face away. Mark stood in the doorway, his head being pushed down by a Nazi. As soon as they took Mimi away from Roger, the Nazi's were gone, leaving Maureen, Collins, and Roger alone in the house, left to mourn the departed.
I will have another chapter up soon!
