Sarah ignored the roses she found on her dresser. Later, she brushed chocolates into the wastebasket. The kitten-soft scarf nestled in her drawer one frigid morning? Scorned after brief hesitation.
Until finally, outside:
"Jareth." His imperious expression made her wince.
"Kings do not beg forgiveness, Sarah."
"Kings also shouldn't magically litter gifts around like someone's half-feral cat."
"You dare-?"
"'Sorry I had the goblins eat your essay, Sarah. I didn't realize how much trouble you'd get into.' Is that hard?"
The Goblin King stared. "You're self-absorbed, not stupid. I'm obviously sorry!"
"Good enough, and you should talk. Walk with me?"
