"Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life"
-How To Save A Life by The Fray
It finally hit him as he watched the portrait of the fat lady swing shut in his face. He stood there, grief stricken, jaw dropped, eyes wide.
Lily didn't want to be his friend anymore. Severus had lost his only true friend. The only person that liked him for who he really was. The girl he loved.
So many thoughts raced through his head at once. Would they ever talk again? Surely it would spread around the school. Severus's house mates wouldn't hold back anymore. Lily would just be an added target to the list. One more mudblood for them to hex.
What would happen to Lily now? Would she betray him even further? Severus could barely form the thought in his mind. He couldn't imagine Lily standing idly by, watching Potter hex him- maybe even laughing while he did it.
"Go back to the dungeon boy! I don't want you standing there like an idiot," the fat lady shouted at him from in the portrait. He scowled at her but rushed down the staircase.
The last thing Severus wanted was for Lily to turn into one of ignorant Gryffindors. He always wondered why she had been sorted into Gryffindor of all houses! She was very cunning and ambitious- much like a Slytherin. Even brainy like a Ravenclaw- she was much too good for Gryffindor.
They didn't deserve her, not at all. Severus deserved Lily much more than any of them but no she was forever out of his reach. The fat lady's portrait was just barely visible above the moving flights of stairs. He stared longingly at it, hoping that maybe- just maybe Lily would burst out looking for him.
He watched it intently for several minutes until he continued his way to the Slytherin dungeon.
Perhaps Slytherins and Gryffindors just weren't meant to get along.
Is it just me or does the SnapeLily friendship remind anyone of the GodricSalazar friendship. I don't mean in the one sided romance way, but more that they were two very different people who were friends for a while but their beliefs tore them apart. It's just a tidbit I thought of while writing the last line.
I personally don't like SnapeLily at all, I just wanted to try my hand at one. I know that I'll probably get yelled at for this but I don't even like Snape. I do feel bad for him but in all truth he brought his own fate down on him.
Actually Snape's mind was very interesting for me to explore. I found myself greatly disliking a lot of what I wrote down- it went against a lot of my opinions. As much as I loathe the main character I like the idea and writing in this.
Well, I hope you enjoyed it!
