A/N: Btw, THIS actually happened to me. I was telling JD about it last night and realized...Hey! Ella would do that. Enjoy!

Seeking Amy

By angellwings

Nate's eyes followed Ella as she entered the mess hall. Her ear buds were in and she was bobbing up and down to a beat he could just barely make out. He grinned in amusement as she sat down next to him with her lunch. She saw him and smiled before putting away her iPod.

"Hi," She said.

He nodded in acknowledgment before speaking. "Hi. What were you listening to?"

She shrugged. "Just some Britney."

"Ah, cool," Nate told her. Truth be told he didn't know many Britney songs, and he didn't really care to. Not that he didn't like Britney, but her music just wasn't his style. He returned to his sandwich and was set to take a bite when he heard Ella singing soflty.

"Oh, baby, baby, if you seek Amy tonight. Oh baby, baby, we'll do whatever you like. Oh baby, baby."

He choked on air and dropped his sandwich suddenly. Ella turned to him with wide eyes as he coughed. "Nate? Are you okay?"

"Am I okay? Am I okay?" He asked with wide eyes. "Do you—You just…"

"What?" Ella asked nervously. "What did I do?"

"That song," Nate said as he cleared his throat. "Do you know what you just sang?"

Ella's brow furrowed. "She's looking for people who are looking for someone named Amy, right?"

"Wait, what's this song called?"

"If You Seek Amy."

He coughed again and closed his eyes as if he were in pain. Very awkward pain. "I'm sorry, it's called what?"

"If. You. Seek. Amy," Ella repeated slowly as she pulled her iPod out and showed him the screen. He blinked at the screen and smiled affectionately at Ella. Suddenly he got it.

He chuckled lightly before speaking. "Ella, I don't think that song is about what you think it's about."

"What do you mean?"

His brow furrowed as he tried to figure out how to explain. "Try saying that title again, but replacing the words with similar sounding letters."

Her nose scrunched and she pursed her lips in thought. "If would be…F, right?"

He nodded. "Right."

"And then U. Seek…um, C?"

He cleared his throat. "Seek and the A in Amy actually make two letters, El. So that would be C and then one more."

"Right, so F, U, C, and—" She cut herself off and suddenly blushed a deep crimson. "Oh. Oh no! Really? This whole time I've been singing this song to myself I was really spelling—that's embarrassing. That's really embarrassing!"

Nate couldn't help but laugh at her as her eyes grew wider and her cheeks reddened. He stopped himself as she started to burry her head in her hands. "Ella, really, it's not a big deal. I'm sure no one noticed."

"You noticed. That's embarrassing enough."

"Well, if it helps I'm not going to hold it against you." He said with a small smile.

"That's good. You know what else is good?" She asked him with a shake of her head.

"What?"

"That I didn't make this song my ringtone like I wanted to do this morning."

And this time, Nate couldn't stop the laughter. She pouted and glared at him, but he just kept laughing. He reached around and squeezed her shoulders. "I would have loved to have seen people's faces when that blared from your phone."
