A ceremonial recognition of the starship Enterprise's crew and presenting of their newest mission.
I don't own anything from the Star Trek canon
"Bridge members of the U.S.S. Enterprise, please rise and state your name and rank for the members of the Federation so that they can acknowledge you."
Jim Kirk looked to his right, giving a smile and a nod to each of his crew members. Almost as one they stood up and each gave their name and ranking.
"James Kirk. Captain; U.S.S. Enterprise"
"Spock. Commander, Science Officer, First Officer; U.S.S. Enterprise"
"Leonard McCoy. Chief Medical Officer; U.S.S. Enterprise"
"Nyota Uhura. Lieutenant, Communications Officer; U.S.S. Enterprise"
"Hikaru Sulu. Helmsman; U.S.S. Enterprise"
"Pavel Chekov. Ensign; U.S.S. Enterprise"
There was a pause in the air, everyone seemed to be waiting for another name to be called but it never came. Jim waited in anticipation for his Scotsman to say his name but when he looked over he noticed the man was still sitting.
"Scotty. Get up," he whispered, the Federation members' attention now on the man in question.
Scotty looked between them and Kirk, clearly put off guard by the attention suddenly on him. "Oh, um well I just assumed that since I wasn't a member of the crew before the mission that I wouldn't be a part of all this," Scotty said gesturing to the pomp and circumstance of the standing and reciting rank.
"Are you not a member of Starfleet?" the leader of the Federation asked.
"Oh well yes yes I am," Scotty replied.
"And were you not appointed a position aboard a Starfleet ship under the command of a captain?"
"Y-yes," Scotty said, squirming a little in his seat.
"And did you not save everyone on said ship from being sucked into a black hole?"
"Oh well I suppose so, yes."
"Then those are reason enough to be called a member of a Starfleet flagship. Please. Rise."
Scotty stood up, pulling down his worn brown jacket, sticking out like a sore thumb in the room full of red outfits.
"Montgomery Scott. Chief Engineer; U.S.S. Enterprise"
"Now, the starship Enterprise will have a five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no one has gone before. Captain Kirk, are you and your crew ready for such a mission?"
Jim turned to look at his crew as each looked back at him. "Oh I think we can handle it," he said with a smirk.
"Then this meeting is adjourned. You are all dismissed and one more thing, something I've picked up from our Vulcan guests.
Live long and prosper."
