Prologue
"Sasuke!" The boy was screaming as loud as he could, but the word was lost in the raging storm. "Sasuke! Where are you?" He was desperately searching through the rubble, his hands torn and bleeding. A shadow passed over him, and he looked up just in time to counter the ninja's strike. Their blade's clanged together as the ninja continued his attack. "I don't have time for this!" With rage improving his movements, he tripped his opponent and quickly slashed his throat. Without a second glance at his fallen enemy, he continued his search.
When the sun set, he knew that he had to give up, that it was impossible to find some one in complete darkness. With a loud, enraged cry, he sat down in the midst of the destruction and waited for light. He didn't even dare close his eyes, for he knew not if the enemy were still lurking in the darkness. Sasuke... where are you?
...
Heat and light dragged the boy out of his deep, dreamless sleep. Damn it, I must have fallen asleep, he thought.
A large piece of wood had fallen on him while he slept, and he pushed it off of him with ease and opened his eyes. What he witnessed at that moment he would not soon forget. The bodies of the villagers, the people who he had grown up with, were piled atop one another. A ring of fire surrounded the pile, licking at the outstreched limbs. It would soon engulf them entirely. Shit! What if Sasuke's in there?
With that thought in mind, he rushed to the battered and bloody bodies and began digging through them. As he looked through them, he saw many familiar faces, the faces of his friends. But, he had no time to mourn over them, for the fire was inching closer and closer. He had only a small amount of time to find who he was looking for.
He was only able to search through half of the pile when the fire took it. The flames spread faster as they consumed clothes, hair and skin. The boy could no longer dig, he had to leave, otherwise the fire would burn him.
With tears streaming down his face and a heavy heart, he left his home and his friends to the hungry flames.
