Someday.
Jeez, we really tossed that word around, didn't we, brother? 'Someday' one of us will marry Winry-chan. 'Someday' we'll find the Stone and get our normal bodies and lives back. And then when we'd get discouraged, we'd say it was too vague of a word to put our hopes on. But still, we'd end up back on our search, using 'someday' as our only time constraint. I guess I'll have to add another hope to that list...
Someday I'll bring you back.
Winry-chan keeps telling me to give it up, that there's no way you could've survived that incident in Liore, and talking to you like this can't be good for my mental health. That's the one thing we can't agree on, but I think she doesn't even believe that herself. I caught her toying with your old automail the other day- it really was smaller than I guess you are now. You won't be short forever, brother!
But really, I promise. I'll bring you back, and we can get things back to normal. I've started learning alchemy again, but it's not the same without you. I'll get you back, brother.
Someday.

Al, sometimes I wish that I had never thought to bring mom back with human transmutation, but that was just another item on our list of 'someday's, wasn't it? 'Someday' we'll see mom smile again. 'Someday' we'll piece our lives back together. And anyways, if we hadn't tried, then I wouldn't be a state alchemist, and I wouldn't have met Colonel Bastard, or gone to Rush Valley, or helped with Elysia's birth (that was still weird, don't you think so? How is the kid now?) or any of those crazy things. And as odd as it sounds, I'm starting to miss everything. Colonel Shithead included. But those are all more reasons to get back.
I've started studying rocketry with some Heiderich kid. He's a real genius (are you studying again? You always did like learning) and I think this space stuff might get me back home. It's worth a shot, anyway. Someday I'll come home, Al. Just give me time. And, y'know, I'm starting to miss the constant chorus of "Brother, don't do that!" Because at least you nagging me means that we're together.
Someday, Alphonse.
Someday, we'll meet again, and live as though we were normal.
Ich liebe dich, mein Bruder. Ich verspreche dass ich nach Haus zurückkehren werde.
A/N: Set right after Ed gets sent through the Gate to Germany. Translation of the last two sentences: 'I love you, my brother. I promise that I will return home.'
