Authors notes: This is a sort of prequel to the Repentant Child fic that I wrote a few weeks ago.
"Ruby..."
His words weren't harsh or cruel as he looked down at her, her petite body only covered by a silk sheet as he appears within the blink of an eye. "Yes..." She manages to whisper, nerves suddenly filling her as he continues to not just look at her, but stare at her. She bites her lip as he begins to speak her heart swelling as he begins to speak, his deep baritone voice filling the small but luxurious apartment he had acquired for her... them. "Why are you so afraid of me?" He removes his trenchcoat and takes a seat at the foot of the bed, she shifts so the sheet fully covers her, trying to somehow regain some of her long lost innocence.
"You're an angel..." She murmurs as she looks away, still unable to meet his gaze as she looks towards the window. "I'm a sinner. A harlot, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not worthy." She holds back a choked sob and he moves ever closer so that they are almost touching, he reaches over to stroke her face. "You're not, I promise you. You were misguided. You did what you had to do, even though that was wrong, your intentions were pure. You had to look after your younger sister." He swallows at Leonore's mention. "I'm sorry to hear about her... about her turning. She was a good girl from what you've told me."
Ruby shuts her eyes tightly, her grip on the sheets tightening ever so slightly. He was wrong about her sister for one, underneath her cherry pie persona, she was black as coal. "You're wrong Castiel. That's all I've ever known. I was told I was a whore, a slag... nothing but a piece of meat that was shared around until it went rotten. I'm not Dean... I'm not Sam, Jo... or even Mary. I'm nothing like them... I'm just wrong. That's why she... she chose me to try and kill you... because I was so damn mindless..." She tries to speak again but is stopped by his forefinger on her thin lips.
Years of walking the pavement so to speak, had taken their toll. Her hair was no longer a dusty blonde but a dirty blonde that hadn't been cut properly and her body was skinnier than it used to be, her ribcage easily visible.
"Don't." He whispers softly, gently pulling at the sheets that covered her body. Ruby twitches ever so slightly, a mixture between panic and need. He removes his finger from her lip and dives down swiftly so that his lips take its place. "You aren't alone anymore Ruby. You never will again." He murmurs as he pulls away to stroke at her face again, the gesture full of inhibited affection, whether it is love he was yet to know. "These sheets, they're ours now."
She nods lazily, her eyelids shutting over her tear-filled eyes. "Now sleep Ruby, heaven will be in need of you soon." She hears those last words as she drifts off into a subdued dream, thankfully empty of any presence from the woman she had once called her master.
