George had been low on inspiration all morning. He didn't even have to heart to put a new type of exploding dung-bomb (rancid cheese scented) into McGonagall's draw during transfiguration. He rubbed his eyes tiredly. This was all Fred's fault. George didn't know why it was his fault, but at times like this, he just enjoyed blaming things on Fred.
George knew what he needed to do (or rather, who he needed to find), he was just a little reluctant to, seeing as it would lead to Fred teasing him (for the millionth time) about having a kid girlfriend.
"We're just friends," he would insist, and Fred would wiggle his eyebrows in a way that made George feel uncomfortable.
The conversation would then end with Fred giving George the "Don't do anything/anyone that I wouldn't do!" and they would move on to talking about changing the colour of their Puking Pastilles to make them more appealing.
After contemplating the situation, George decided that his work was more important than his pride and even worth a but of minor teasing from his twin.
Luna was perched on the low wall in the courtyard, book in hand, when George finally found her.
"What are you reading?" he asked, taking a seat next to her, just close enough that their arms were brushing each other, but not so close he could smell her hair (although he knew that it would probably be passionfruit scented (not that he had smelt it often, just when she walked past and there was a draft)).
She jumped a little at the sudden movement, but smiled in a slightly dreamy way when she realised it was George ('Although,' George pondered, 'All her smiles are quite dreamy really.')
"It's called 'Alice in Wonderland". It's by a supposedly muggle writer, but I suspect he must have had some magic in his veins to conjure up such creatures," Luna replied, turning the cover so George could see the neat, little title across the top and illustration of a girl (who reminded him of a young Luna) holding what looked like a flamingo below it.
"Looks enchanting,' George remarked, leaning back a little and peering at the book over Luna's shoulder as she returned to her reading. Despite the illustrations (all the books George read had to have illustrations), he soon became bored.
"So what is this book actually about?' he huffed, frustrated that all of Luna's attention was focused on the pages and not him.
Luna turned at that point and beamed at his (slightly forced, but trying to be genuine) interest. She began an only slightly condensed telling of the story of Alice, a girl who tumbles down a rabbit hole to find herself in a world of talking animals and terrifying Queens. George didn't question the logic behind the book, but his interest was piqued at the mention of the "Eat Me" cake and "Drink Me" potion. His brain whirred into gear.
"It sounds wonderful Luna, but would you mind if I leave? I feel like I have an idea."
"Oh, of course!" Luna replied, "Also, before you go"
She carefully folded the corner of her current page, placed the book next to her then pressed her lips to George's cheek. As she pulled away, she beamed at him once more, then picked up her book and resumed reading.
George could not stop smiling that whole afternoon, not even when his first attempt at creating the "Eat Me" cake resulted in his nose doubling in size.
A/N; Hope you enjoyed that! If you want more, let me know: I have a couple of ideas for a sequel! Luna & Alice seem to go hand in hand! Thanks for reading - CF
