"Aw! Jose! Look, it's so cute!" Emily squealed and held the little puppy up to her chest. The little german shepard puppy tried nipping at her long black hair but she quickly swept her hair behind her shoulder, resulting in a small growl from the puppy. "When I grow up, I'm getting a puppy just like this one and naming her belleza."

"Belleza?" My eyebrows shot up. "That's Spanish for beauty."

Emily winked, "I know, I'm the one who came up with the name" Emily winked and her big brown eyes sparkled. She sighed and put the little puppy back in the pen. "But it won't be for a while. It's a purebred, I don't have the kind of money for a purebred."

I frowned, "but you would have enough to take care of it though, right? It's just the starting cost that's the issue?"

Emily nodded and her eyebrows crinkled like she was worried. She looked into my eyes, "Well, yeah. I would just feed her table scraps and stuff." My girlfriend narrowed her brown eyes and stared me down, "You aren't planning on buying me that puppy, are you? You don't have the kind of money for that, either."

Well, there was one plan out the window. I just wanted to get her a nice present for our six month anniversary but Emily was harder to buy for than I'd originally thought. "Okay, I promise I won't buy the puppy." I sighed and looked longingly at the little dog. She was staring at me with wide eyes and I knew I had to get her for Emily. It was the perfect gift!

Emily turned around and started looking at all the little poodles and collies but my eyes stayed glued on the german shepard pup. It let out a little whimper and an idea popped into my mind. "I promised I wouldn't buy the puppy..."

I looked around quickly before picking the brown puppy out of its cage for the second time that day and shoved her down into my coat pocket, as strange as that sounds. Belleza was so small she could fit in my pocket with extra room to spare. The runt of the litter.

"Come on, Em. It's time to go." I muttered and tugged at Emily's arm. She was holding a different puppy with a scrunched up face as she looked at me in confusion.

"What? But we just got here?" Emily objected and I tugged her arm a little harder.

"Trust me, babe, we should probably get going now." I muttered and Emily nodded before carefully placing the puppy back in its cage and locking the door. We had almost made it to the door of the pet shop when a loud, distinct sound could be heard from my pocket. Barking.

"Sir, stay there!" Someone at the counter yelled and I tried backing away slowly.

"Um, I'm actually kind of in a bit of a rush." I said and tried to pull Emily along but I felt someone grab my shoulders. I turned around to see it was the man from the counter and damn he was HUGE.

"I heard barking." he stated and I shrugged and motioned around.

"We are in a pet store, it isn't anything unusual." I smirked and his face grew red in rage. Lesson number one: don't upset the big guy.

"From you're jacket." As if on cue, Belleza poked her head out of the pocket and I winced as people surrounding me gasped. Emily included. "Stay here while I call the police."

"You tried to steal a puppy?" Emily whispered hoarsely and I could already see the tears welling up in her eyes. I tried to wipe them away but she jerked away. "You're a criminal!" she screamed in my face and raced out the door.

That was the last I ever saw of Emily before I was whisked away to Camp Green Lake.

And she didn't even get the puppy.
