Marinette fiddled with her pencil, trying to come up with lyrics. Although no one knew, not even Alya, Marinette was quite good at writing songs. However, she wasn't extremely talented when it came to melodies or singing. Unfortunately, or fortunately, her partner for the random, out of place assignment, was Adrien and because of some... stalking, Marinette knew just how amazing he was at piano and singing. In fact, Marinette was completely sure Adrien was a slice of heaven, or an angel; that worked too.
Marinette groaned. How was she supposed to do this? Caving in under an imaginary burden, Marinette melted into a hot mess. At the moment, the only thing she wanted to write was her will. It would start with,
"I am really sorry everyone but I couldn't take the pressure of being Adrien's assigned partner. His angelic voice took me to heaven."
It wasn't that she minded being his partner. Actually, many of Marinette's wildest fantasies, which included said boy, began with being partners for a school project. Originally, when she first heard the news, Marinette had been estatic. But Chloé, being the "naturally" "encouraging" person she was had really hit a weak point in Marinette's armor.
"Of all the talented people in the room, why her?"
Why her indeed?
Marinette couldn't think of the answer. Everyone knew Rose could sing beautifully, Nino could mix beats, Alya was a fantastic writer and poet of words, and even Chloé could carry a decent tune.
So why had Adrien chosen her?
Marinette sighed, returning her thoughts to her "will". She mused what part would be for Adrien.
"My dearest—-" no that didn't sound right at all. "Adrien, I always wanted to—-" no, that didn't work either.
However, before she knew it, her hand, which often seemed to have a mind of its own, began to write,
"Please don't look away
It's hard enough what I'm trying to say
The words run together in my head
So I'll try to say them out loud instead
I've only known you for a couple weeks
It's kind of embarrassing to speak
But I need to tell you
But I don't know how'll you'll react
Now is the time
I can't wait anymore
I put my heart out on the line
For what the future can store
Is it crazy to believe
That you are more than a fantasy
Is insane just to hope
That you're not as far away as I thought so
Your smile and your eyes
They light up the blackest night
And I can't help myself
And though I can't say it well
It's too late
I've fallen"
"No" Marinette thought. Although it sounded decent, it was practically a confession, something she wasn't prepared to give at all. She crumpled the paper and aimed to throw it away. But at the last second, she couldn't. Suddenly, her Mom called, and stuffing the paper into her notebook, she forgot all about it.
... until Adrien found it while they were going over song ideas. Whether an actual confession commenced, well, that was up to Marinette. But afterwards, the first thing Marinette got started on when she got home, was not homework or a new fashion design, or another song.
It was her will.
