Title: Logan's Little Conversation

Series: End Of The Road

Author: Karen

Disclaimer: The characters belong to Marvel, Fox, yada, yada, yada. Except for Sara, who's my creation or technically in this story, Scott and Marie's creation.

Feedback: Second only to ice cream.

Summary: Logan converses with five year-old Sara.

Author's notes: This is a vignette that takes place after Logan has left Westchester and moved to England. Timeline-wise it's set between "At The Crossroads" and "In Love With Mississippi". It's my first dialogue-only attempt. Any misspellings in Sara's dialogue have been done intentionally to simulate age-appropriate speech. Also, I've tried to incorporate the tendency of little kids to veer off track by having Sara change the direction of the conversation a couple of times.

*Ring*

"Hello."

"Hey, angelface."

"Logan!"

"How's my number one girl?"

" _ "

"That's you, Sara."

"Oh. I'm fine. I miss you."

"I miss you too, honey."

"When are you coming home?"

"Not for a while."

"Next week?"

"Sara, I live in England now. Your mommy explained that to you."

"I saw a falling star last night and mommy told me to make a wish. So I did, and now you have to come back."

"Remember what I told you when I gave you my tag?"

"Uh huh."

"Well, I will be back … one day. I just can't be there right now. Do you understand?"

"No."

"Sara, …"

"Will you tell me a story?"

"Oh, angelface, I don't know any stories."

"Don't you read?"

"I read Playboy, but unlike some guys, I don't pretend I buy it for the *articles*."

"Tell me a story about you."

"That would really be X-rated."

"An alphabet story? I can do my ABC's all the way up to G, wanna hear? A, B, C, D, E, F, G."

"Why don't you tell me a story?"

"I can't do that, 'cause I don't have 'nuf life expeppermints."

"Experience."

"Yeah, that thing."

"You really wanna hear about my dull life?"

"Do you have a lot of toys? 'Cause daddy says you're a player."

"Oh yeah, well your dad's a …"

"Big hero?"

"He's a big something all right."

"He's my hero. But you can be my hero when he's busy."

"That's me, hero-substitute."

"Mommy said you were her hero."

"Really, she told you that?"

"Oh sure. She said she holds you in high steam."

"High esteem."

"What's that?"

"It means you admire someone."

"Would you kiss someone you mire?"

"Maybe, but it's different from kissing someone you love."

"How?"

"No tongue."

"Do you love my mommy?"

"Everyone loves your mom."

"Jubes says you have unquiet love."

"I think she means unrequited. And you can tell Jubilee to ... Nevermind."

"Logan, when I'm growed up will you marry me?"

"Sure, angelface."

*Shouts* "Mommy, I'm gonna marry Logan."

*Pause*

"Mommy said daddy will have a canary."

"I think she means coronary."

"Is that a good thing?"

"It is for me. Not so much for your dad."

"Did you do something wrong this week?"

"Nothing that they can make the charges stick, why?"

"'Cause I heard daddy tell Bobby he was gonna kick your sorry ass in the Anger Room."

"Well, your dad always has been an optimist. Say, what's your mommy doing right now?"

"Getting changed to go out to dinner with daddy." *whispers* "She has no clothes on."

"Lemme talk to her."

"Mommy…phone."

"Hello."

"I hear you're naked. Too bad this isn't a video phone."

"Logan, get a hobby."
