So Descendants is probably the best Disney movie I've seen in a long time, which is why I thought I'd write this cute little Jaylos fic for all of you lovely people out there among the interwebs! Thanks and enjoy Standards.

By the students' view of things, Carlos and Jay were only acquaintances, friends at the most. They would hang out sometimes and tease each other, wrestle over stupid things, or just send menacing glares at one another. So it was easy for the other teens at Auradon Prep to assume Jay and Carlos didn't exactly get along.
What they didn't know was that this was their way of flirting.
Though Mal had been the first of them to start dating, she had conformed to Auradon's dating standards –at least, mostly. But she had been right when she told Ben that dating on the island was like being in a two-person gang. On the island, hurling insults was a way of saying "I love you." Wrestling was their way of cuddling. Giving one another death glares was equivalent to loving glances. It kept their feelings secret from others who would exploit them.
But everyone figured it out one fall day.
It was a picture perfect afternoon: the leaves were a thousand different colors, small piles here and there. Students milled around the lawn, studying or chatting, all decked out in light jackets and scarves. And sitting on a blanket, surrounding a small blanket, were the six best friends. Evie was holding Doug's hand while they read a textbook, Mal was resting her head on Ben's shoulder while chowing down on a strawberry, and Jay and Carlos were stretched out side by side with Dude curled up near them.
Jay became bored very fast, so he did what he always did when he got bored: he messed with Carlos. The De Vil boy noticed instantly that someone was tugging on his striped scarf. He glared at the culprit, who smirked in return. He was familiar with this game, and it was one he won more often than not.
When Jay started tugging on Carlos' hair instead of his scarf, the dog-loving teen reached over and snatched the boy's beanie from his head. The girls glanced over and rolled their eyes, all too familiar with the sight. The other two boys didn't notice anything out of the ordinary; after all, Jay and Carlos annoyed each other often enough.
"Give it back!" Jay demanded, glaring at Carlos.
Now it was Carlos' turn to smirk. "Nope," he grinned, fitting the knitted red hat on his head. "I think I'll keep it."
Jay reacted like everyone expected: he tackled the boy, pinning him to the blanket. An epic struggle ensued, grabbing the attention of most of the other students. Call them sick and twisted, but they were curious to see who would win the fight. Jay fought Carlos for his hat, not noticing the stares of his peers. Carlos, in turn, just grinned stupidly as he tried to shove Jay off. For a while, it looked like neither side would win, until Carlos somehow managed to roll them over so he was sitting on Jay. But instead of getting off, the son of Cruella leaned down and captured the son of Jafar's lips with his own.
Utter silence came from the stunned crowd.
How long had they been together? How had none of them even suspected they were dating? Seriously?! But Jay and Carlos didn't care what everyone else was thinking. They just enjoyed their kiss.
Carlos eventually broke said kiss and lay back down on the blanket, petting Dude. Jay smiled at his boyfriend, a rare tender smile that he reserved just for Carlos.
"You can keep the hat," he whispered in his ear. "It looks good on you."
Carlos laughed, lightly shoving Jay back. So their romance wasn't a fairytale. Who cared? They loved each other just the same.
I know, I know, this was sappy. But it was cute, right? Thanks for reading!
