Summary There was something special about Sena even before he'd gained his golden legs, but even he hadn't known how his little gift would affect the future.

Prologue

CRACK.

Riku stared at the boy on the roof in disbelief before turning his gaze to where he had been, then returned it to where he was currently.

Sena froze when he saw Riku's gleeful smile. That didn't bode well for him.

"Do that again!" Riku demanded excitedly as Sena cautiously made his way back down from the storage building roof, trying not to slip on the rungs of the ladder.

"Do what?" The perturbed brunet asked.

"Whatever it was that you just did!" Riku gestured wildly at Sena to the roof and back again.

"How can I repeat something if I don't even know how I did it?"

"TRY!" Riku shouted, then amended in a softer, more coaxing voice, "If you can do that again, you won't have to worry about bullies."

Sena snorted disbelievingly. "Uh-huh, right. And when the adults see me do this, what am I supposed to do then? Hm? No, I wouldn't use it even if I knew how to. It's too dangerous, not to mention what the adults would have me do with this talent if they knew about it!"

Riku paused, a thoughtful and slightly chagrined expression in his eyes. "Point. Well, I'll just have to teach you how to run then, won't I, otouto?"A sly, confident grin dominated the silver-haired boy's face.

Sena gaped at Riku, a strange, bubbly feeling building in his chest. Still a little dazed at the turn of events, the brunet gulped and nodded, before his brows scrunched in mild confusion. "Since when are you my big brother?"

Riku grinned and shrugged carelessly, not deigning to answer as he tugged Sena along with a strong grip on the smaller boy's hand. "C'mon, I'm gonna show you how to run so you don't have to worry about bullies."

Sena stared at his self-proclaimed Nii-san's back as he focused on the warmth of Riku's hand on his. He wondered, 'Is this what it is like to have family that truly cares?'

He smiled then, a knot of anxiety in his chest that he hadn't even known was there easing away. Sena remembered fear, disappointment, and a bellowing voice - "freak!" - from somewhere in his deep, almost forgotten dreams. He was so glad they hadn't come true, not with Riku.

Sena decided then, with a rare rush of determination, that he would put his all into running, to make his 'big brother' proud of him.
