Authors note ;
Excuse me if I suck. This is my first time using Haiku's especially in a fanfiction.
I've wanted to try and write a short fic about Maya and Zero. [Yes, I pair them.]
Dedicated to my Mr. Fuzzy face, for without him, I would not exist.
Any advice, or critisizim is appreciated.
Maya P.O.V.
The sound of guns reloading as I parted from the group. I marched my way across the desert landscape back through Fyrestone and to the closest Ammo dump. After browsing the shop, I shifted around as Salvador and Axton walked past me. Both of them chuckling about something Salvador said.
" And that's when I left the bar. "
Axton wiped sweat from his brow with another chuckle. They were heading to our bandit technical vehicle which was parked a short distance from the exit of this place. I let out a deep sigh as Zero wandered over, walking a distance behind the two. I was confused myself as to what exactly Zero was, or what he wanted. Was her really in it just for the challenge the rumors suggested? Or was he on the run like Axton or Salvador..all of us, really.
Sometimes I would catch myself just staring at him. He didn't -seem- human. He had some mannerisms of a being. He talked, but when he did, it seemed to be a poem. He didn't show his face, so I have no idea if he had a mouth, a nose, and two eyes..or maybe 5 tentacles under there. I've never seen him eat, but his chest heaves when he breathes. Was this stalkerish or what? I was snapped out of my thinking by the feel of a look. I realized I must have been staring at Zero too long to notice he had passed me and I was getting stared at by him, and the other two men from the vehicle.
" Comin' or not? " Shouted Salvador as he honked the horn.
" I'm coming, I'm coming. "
I rushed past an empty skag nest before jumping over the side of the back and doing a back flip into the bed of the car. I used my gloved hand to hold on to the side, eyes glancing towards Zero who was also sitting back there with me. Axton was in the gunner seat.
I wondered what he thought about.
He didn't seem to be looking in any direction, just into space.
" The wind blows the trees. "
" Hm? "
" A bird hums a tune in choir. "
I blinked ,watching him.
" The sun will set now. "
It wasn't unsual for him to say strange things like this all of the time. But when he did, sometimes I found myself closing my eyes and picturing what he was talking about even if his voice was monotone and robotic sounding. It was peaceful.
After a few countless hours searching around for our objective, Salvador gave up and we pulled the vehicle over for the night. We found ourselves an abandoned bandit camp and settled down for a good night sleep when all of a sudden a rabid skag jumped from one of the huts and surprised Zero. I shot it out of his face and it flew to the ground dead. He looked towards me.
" Thanks. "
" You're welcome. "
He began to step closer towards me, I blinked watching him carefully as he came inches away from my face. His hands went to the end of his helmet, and as he lifted it, I felt my heart nearly jump out of my chest.
" Z-zero? "
As he pulled it off, I stared in horror as his face was Jack's.
I woke up screaming.
Axton was shaking my shoulder.
" MAYA! What the hell did you eat? "
" W-what? "
I looked around, Zero and Salvador were watching me too. I appeared to be on the ground.
" You got hit by a corrosive skag, and hit your head pretty hard. " Salvador said.
" Oh..jesus.."
I began to stand as Axton took my hand and helped me up. It was all a dream.
Ever since that day I never really looked at Zero the same again. I mean, I did wonder what was under the mask, and what he was thinking about..but maybe it would be better if I never found out.
