Summary: It is 150 years into the future: humans are livestock, kept crygenically frozen for the feeding habit of thousands of Kindred all the world over...
The blue-green waters that surround me are bone-chillingly cold. A thin layer of ice encases my frozen body like a cocoon surrounds a sleeping caterpillar. But this caterpillar will never transform into a beautiful butterfly. This cryogenic prison has frozen my very marrow and increasingly numbed my mind. It is wonder that after 150 years, I am still able to think, can still see and hear.
Night after night for the last century, I have been silent witness to these so-called 'scientists,' never realizing who they truly are. If I could grin now, I would at the thought of my naivety all those years ago when first I had signed up for the 'clinical trial.' The promise of eternal youth and fortune had propelled me to answer the inconspicuous ad, not knowing that my foolish yearnings would earn me a one-way ticket to hell.
Now, however, at the last dawn of my slumber, I finally comprehend what my eyes have seen…the bloodshed, the experiments, the feedings. There is only one obvious conclusion one can make from sights such as these: the world is no longer our own. How can it be when humans are treated as little more than cattle to be killed and eaten?
It is this thought that frightens me the most as I prepare to be thawed out. I have no idea what I will discover when I awaken.
"Excuse me if I am being presumptuous…But I do believe that corpse in there has far the better deal than any of us," a hallow voice murmurs from beyond the foggy haze of my mind. Even this hushed whisper hurts my ears that have grown accustomed to dormancy and silence.
I frantically rush to open my eyes to glance out upon this new world, but the harsh brilliance of the fluorescent lights burns my eyes. I gasp out in pain, yet the voice above does not hear me and another voice replies to the first.
"Are you implying that this frozen meal is better off than I? I am vampire, and that is far more than enough. I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine -- now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. No prince-" I didn't listen to the rest of his rhetoric…my mind was focused on only one thing: vampire...
