Now That You're Gone

My life should be great.

The Black Organization is gone.

I am myself, the 17 year old Kudo Shinichi.

It all came to a happy ending, right?

Wrong.

*Flashback*

That old warehouse looked oppressive. Why was it so big? Why was it so hard to find a bound and gagged Ran inside of it? Why did I come alone? Damn it...I should have called the police. Maybe Hattori did...

I ran past a couple of boxes. I heard a voice. It sent chills down my spine. That's when my life as I knew it came to a halt:

There was Ran. On the floor. With a gun pointed at her head.

A muffled "Shinichi!" came from Ran's covered mouth. She looked relieved. She thought that it would all work out, that I had brought the police and everyone with me. But...I had not.

I realized how little power I had to fight Gin, the one pointing a gun at her. A look of panic and horror crossed Ran's face as she saw I had no backup.

"Heh...the boy detective. I knew you'd come. Say goodbye to your love."

A single shot was heard.

The silence after that was deafening. I saw Ran's face. It was empty of emotion. A single tear was falling down her cheek.

It hit the floor.

A few seconds later, the police force ran up behind me. I think I was in shock.

"WHY WERE YOU SO LATE?" I screamed. I was sobbing. "HATTORI—WE'RE TOO LATE!"

Gin was rounded up. I was beyond shock. I was panicking. They were taking the now late Ran away on a stretcher. I chased after them.

"No no no no no no no! This isn't happening! THIS ISN'T HAPPENING!"

The pulled a cover over her head.

"TAKE THAT COVER OFF DAMNIT SHE'S NOT GONE! NO!!!!! DON'T LEAVE ME RAN!"

I was so shocked that naïvely, I believed she was alive.

How I wished she was.

*End Flashback*

They told me it wasn't my fault.

But it is.

I shouldn't have gone after her alone.

I miss her.

I miss her...so much.

But I'll see her again.

Very soon, actually.

I look in the mirror. A deranged smile crosses my face. I look at the pistol I am holding.

Everything seems so peaceful...so peaceful.

I'm coming Ran...I'm coming...

Yesterday, 17 year old Kudo Shinichi was found dead in his house. Cause of death appears to be suicide.

A single shot was heard.
