America x Canada?

Continue? Yes? No?

Panem

It was what they went by now, what they were called – no longer North America, or the United States of America, or Canada, but just Panem.

It was strange that they were both left alive, as a nation usually only had one being representing them, but they thought nothing much of it; didn't think too much of the other nations of former North America that had disappeared as Panem rose from the ashes.

After all, in yet what was known as Europe, there had been two Italies, divided by North and South – both very much different beings with different personalities, but they were still the same, both were still the personification of Italy.

They supposed they were something similar in concept.

Divided by direction, who was formerly known as the United States of America, was now called South Panem. And it was the same for his 'twin' brother of former Canada – now called North Panem.

But neither of them could bring themselves to call each other as such, and always preferred to go by Alfred and Matthew as much as they possibly could.

Neither had so easily let go of the past of when the world was still stabilised – back when everything could have been considered normal.

"It's that time again," Alfred said grimly, glancing at Matthew with wary eyes when the latter gave him a dark look, "We have to attend, Mattie, you know that. Otherwise, President Snow will..." He trailed off, not even wanting to mention any sort of punishment their sadistic boss could and would dish out.

"I know, Alfred," Matthew murmured, "You don't need to tell me or remind me," He said quietly, pausing to stare out the window at the sights of the Capitol, "I just hope it isn't a really young one this time." This was the one day both of them dreaded each and every year.

It was Reaping Day.
