First Sight
There was no doubt in Jaken's mind that no one knew his master better than he. To Jaken it was obvious that Sesshomaru was a demon of definite convictions; either everything was in straight black and white or it didn't exist. A demon was for what it was, a human was for what it was, and a half-breed was dirt. End of discussion.
To keep company with a being of either pure race was one issue, but to dally with a specimen of tainted blood…Jaken knew Sesshomaru's esteem of InuYasha.
Suddenly, there was a shift in the wind.
"Lord Sesshomaru! Lord Sesshomaru!"
The daiyokai glanced over his shoulder; Rin was running up to him. She was dragging along a companion.
"See, Kotsuki? This is Lord Sesshomaru." Rin introduced her with a friendly wave of her arm. Kotsuki squirmed under the demon's gaze, and she had every right to.
Jaken didn't have to look up to see Sesshomaru's mouth twist, his eyes narrow. After all, here was this auburn-maned child with emerald irises and conspicuous fox ears. Not only did each feature point to a pathetic partial transformation but also screamed hanyo.
There was an awkward silence. Kotsuki finally cleared her throat. "Maybe I should go now."
"No, wait!" Rin pleaded. "I haven't told Lord Sesshomaru how you're different."
"I think he already knows."
"Yeah?" Rin blinked quizzically at Sesshomaru. "Can you really tell that she's left-handed?"
Kotsuki stared at Rin, Jaken tripped over a nonexistent stone, and as for Sesshomaru – he smiled.
The proud demon dipped his head. "Enjoy your day, girls."
Befuddled, Jaken gaped at his liege. Apparently even Sesshomaru saw in shades of gray.
The dog-demon, however, was just glad his eyes had finally opened.
