Chapter One

Hello all. This is my first fanfiction ever, so don't be too hard in your reviews. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.

I stood before the wall that would take me to Platform 9& ¾. 'I can't believe this is actually happening' I thought to myself as I gathered up all of my courage, looked around to make sure no muggles were looking and ran as fast as I could through the wall. I safely got to the other side and started walking towards the Hogwarts Express. I gave my ticket to the conductor and entered the train.

I slowly walked through the narrow aisle, dragging my luggage behind me, looking for an empty compartment. After a few minutes of searching, I found an empty compartment. I slid open the door and stepped in, then closed the door behind me. The compartment was small but cozy, with black leather booth seats and red carpet. I quickly stowed my luggage in the cupboard above my seat and pulled out my sketchbook from my messenger bag.

After what seemed like ages, the train's whistle blew and the train started to lurch forward on the train tracks. I heard a few girls and boys laughing about something. The noise got closer and the group stopped in front of my compartment door. A boy with dark hair and green eyes slid the door open after knocking and smiled.

"Mind if we sit in here with you?" The boy asked. "No not at all." I simply replied. The boy slid the door opened and walked in. A group of about five followed in, all smiling and greeting me. I scooted over in my seat towards the window to make some room. A girl with curly brown hair sat beside me. "Hello, I'm Hermione Granger." She said extending her hand to mine. I took it and she gently shook mine, then let go. "This is Ginny Weasley." She said motioning to the girl who sat beside her. She had beautiful green eyes and had red hair. "And this is Luna Lovegood." A girl with very pale skin, icey blue eyes and snowy hair waved to her. "Oh and this is Ron Weasley, Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom." She motioned towards the boys. I noted mentally that Ron and Ginny were siblings, due to the hair and eye colour. That and they both had the same surname. Harry was the boy with dark shaggy hair and green eyes. And Neville was the boy with brown wavy hair.

"Oh goodness me, how rude! I didn't even ask for your name!" Hermione said panicked. I chuckled. "Don't worry, no harm done. My name's Layla Bane. Nice to meet all of you." I said smiling. The blond haired girl looked at me and smiled. "So, what house are you in? I've never seen you around Hogwarts before." "Well I wouldn't know." The group gave me quizzical looks and I laughed. "I mean, I'm new. I just transferred from Durmstang because of the career I want." This time the red haired boy named Ron spoke up. "Wait I though Durmstang was an all boy school? " "Nope, there are girls, very few, but there are. We just never participate in many big things, like Quidditch. In fact, I've never even played quidditch." Ron looked at me, shock on his face. "You've never played Qudditch?!" Everyone then looked at Layla, who blushed. "Well, no… I'm afraid of heights." "Oh" Is all Ron could say.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. A elderly woman with slightly grey hair wearing a robe and hat entered the compartment.

Author's note: Sorry this was short... Trying to get a feel for this whole thing, but I promise the next chapter will be longer. Please rate and review!
