Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who. Obviously.
"And before I go-"
"Don't say that!"
"Rose. Before I go, I just want to say that you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I." I could just feel my mouth turning upwards when the light burst out of him, forcing his head back and shielding his face from my view.
The light was primarily shooting from three points of his body, making up the essence of whom he, the Doctor, my Doctor, is. Was. He was changing. Wouldn't be mine anymore. Not the one I knew and loved. No, present tense. Love, I still love him. But he was disappearing, leaving me here with something - someone unknown.
The light shining out of him was red and gold. Red reflecting the fury he'd held in for so long for his perished home planet, bursting its way out in a massive eruption of energy; the gold reflecting the goodness and selflessness of his soul. Would he still have that after he changed?
I could see his exterior self changing already. My focus set on his head, I could see it shrinking backwards into his skull. Especially his ears. His daft, brilliant, lovely old ears were fading away, turning into an unfamiliar pair I'd never seen before. Dark hair was shooting out in every direction, first overtaking the place where his ears would normally stick out, then growing up the top, before the last traces of energy left him, leaving him standing panting in front of me.
The amazement of the moment completely overtook me, stripping me from the ability of speech. Not that I had anything remotely intelligent to say, but still all the same. I searched his face desperately, looking for some trace of recognition. I caught hold of his eyes. Even they seemed different. The piercing icy-blue exchanged with an unfamiliar, warmer brown. He was babbling on about Barcelona, though I couldn't find myself to care. There was something there though, deep down, that I recognized, but it was so hard to find in the frenzy, I was afraid it was wishful thinking.
"Doctor?" I tried, but the word sounded strange addressing another man.
"Yeah?" he replied, looking up at me, a new smile transforming his face. His voice was different, as was his accent, but I could see it now. My Doctor was still in there somewhere, and in this incredible moment, that little piece of recognition in his smile as he looked at me was all I had to hold on to.
A/N OK, since this is my first ever fanfic I have no idea how it turned out, and would love for you to review. Actually, I'd love for a review if I was new or not, but especially now. And if you do see something that needs improvement, please tell me!
