This was very old, but I saw it on the other day.

He was her child.

The mortals were her creation, Lehran was a mortal.

Still, she felt something... something that completely unsettled her. Emotions were chaotic and she had forsaken them a long time ago. But this feeling... this had the power to destroy order, her very essence.

Love?

Ridiculous.

Years later, Lehran came to her tower, disheveled, the picture of despair. He asked- no, he begged the goddess to let him die and join Altina in the afterlife.

Was this... jealousy? Betrayal perhaps. She didn't want to see him in that state.

He never told the Goddess anything about his children.

Lehran tried to kill himself. Many times. Only to find himself uninjured, healed of all wounds. Cold steel couldn't touch his skin anymore -upon nearing his throat, the blade would simply disintegrate. Spells didn't work either; they never had in the first place, why should it be different?

Losing his powers and becoming immortal. Was this Ashera's punishment for loving a beorc woman? For having half-blooded children?

Had he been able to sing his galdrar, maybe he could have saved Altina. She wouldn't have perished to that unknown illness. Altea and Sephiran could do without a weak father who allowed their mother to die. They were adults who could take care of Begnion and guide it by themselves.

He wasn't needed anymore.

After Altea died, he swore he'd let no other laguz commit the same mistake. No one deserved the pain of watching their entire family disappear and being left behind by time. Pulling the right strings, the fallen heron made sure to forbid the union between Laguz and Beorc. After all, it was a sin against the Goddess.

He took his son's name and kept living, trying to protect what remained of his family.

Ashera herself knew nothing of this, as she continued on her slumber, dreaming of the day she'd see her beloved again. Yes, when the world was finally in peace... they'd be reunited.

She had promised to spare the mortals. They'd still be statues, but that was still better than being completely destroyed. Now, facing her hated other half and those child who weren't hers, the Branded, if she recalled correctly, Ashera felt almost enraged, ready to kill them on an instant.

Hadn't they killed her beloved in cold blood?
