"Has anyone seen the sprinkler?"

- Queen Metalia

It was a good thing Vah Ruta came armed with an anti-theft system that involved shooting massive fire geysers around one of its major control terminals. Water demons typically didn't fare so well against fire, especially the ones that were only a fraction of some bigger demon and could only communicate in dumb snorting sounds.

Mipha didn't senselessly throw her life away trying to regain control of Vah Ruta. She knew that would only leave all of her friends doubly doomed—with an out of control Divine Beast stampeding through Hyrule and no healer left to help the dying world. Instead she was careful, cautious, and strategic. She hid out of the way and let Waterblight Ganon do his thing, letting him think she had fled in cowardly retreat, until he tampered with that one particular terminal that would be his undoing.

She knew it was her cue when she suddenly heard an agonized high-pitched squeal and felt the air heating with the sour aroma of propane. She found the monster weakened in a state she could easily handle on her own: With half of his ancient bastardized Sheikah equipment melted off, a third of his malice-flesh charred to ash, and just generally getting down like he was in a Robocop commercial.

Mipha ran up the giant Waterblight's back delivering swift blow after blow using those graceful trident attacks the game just kinda forgot she had. She finished him off with a single impaling thrust through his eye-orb.

She splashed back to the ground and calmly collected her breath. She waded through the shallow water toward Ruta's cockpit terminal. Her palm rested against the ornate glowing sculpture as she concentrated her power.

Static echoed in the back of her head. Ruta had connected her to the Sheikah Slate's magic resonator. Her gentle voice traveled hundreds of miles away on invisible waves.

"Link, how's it looking out there?"

After a brief wait, the Hylian Champion spoke to her through the distant static.

"The soldiers have most of the Guardians out of the way. I'm about to go in the castle to take care of Calamity Ganon. Zelda went ahead of me."

"Ruta and I will help as much as we can, but I have my own mess to clean up in here," Mipha said. "How are the others?"

"Urbosa and Daruk are still working on their Blight things. They're holding out pretty well." Link's voice paused. "Revali… didn't make it."

Mipha closed her eyes and shook her head in remorse. That bird had clucked his last cucco.

"And Medoh?" she asked.

"I got him back under control. I'm using the Slate so he provides air support on auto-pilot."

The tone of Link's voice became softer and more supportive. She could tell he was worried.

"Do you need my help, Mipha? If you can't deal with that Waterblight by yourself, I'll just teleport over there and slash him up with the Master Sword. Zelda can wait a few more minutes."

The Zora princess glanced over her shoulder toward the lifeless smoking black hulk crumpled in the water behind her. She sighed in relief.

"I think I burned him out."
