Passing Over
I, Anakin Skywalker, stand watching my son drag my former self into his escape ship. The death star is exploding around me, but I don't care. I'm free. I watch my son fly off, seconds before the death star blew into tiny pieces. But it doesn't matter to me; I'm safe. I find myself surrounded by darkness. I circle round looking for something, anything. Finally my 'eyes' fall upon two familiar beings. One is green and barely a metre tall, Master Yoda. The other is a human with greyed hair and a neat beard; he is my former mentor, my former friend and my former brother. Obi-wan Kenobi.
Obi-wan beckons for me to approach him and Yoda. I notice that he is smiling. Could he really of forgiven me for what I did? No, I shouldn't think about that. That was not me who committed those crimes; it was Darth Vader, a monster.
I walk towards them and as I do, I notice my broken body change into the handsome 23 year old man I once was, before Mustafar. When I reach my old friends, they nod their heads and smile. No words were said but I knew that they had indeed forgiven me. The next thing I know, Obi-wan has taken me by the hand and I'm falling through nothingness, if that is possible.
I finally feel something solid under my feet and I realise that we are on Endor, overlooking the Rebels' celebrations with the ewoks. My son sees us all, he smiles at me and I smile back. Can he really see me? I wish I could tell him how proud I was of him. Then I see Leia, my daughter, put her hands on his shoulder to drag him back to the party. He looks at me one more time and then joins his friends. As they walk off, I study my daughter. She looks so much like her mom, I can't believe I didn't see it before. I am so proud of her too, even though she may have no idea that I am her dad. Even if she knew, how could she forgive the man who tortured her and watched as her home planet was destroyed, Bail Organa, the man who she called 'father' along with it. I again stop myself from going down that line of thought. I wasn't him. I am Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight and hero of the Republic.
Now I realise that I am alone again in the same blackness as before. Death certainly wasn't the easiest of things to fathom, even when you are actually dead. Again I circle around and this time my eyes focus onto a golden archway, which is surrounded by brilliant white light. I walk towards it and then I see her. She looks as beautiful as ever, her brown curls flowing over her shoulders. She is beaming at me. My pace quickens and finally I reach her. She leaps into my arms and holds me tight. Then she kisses me and floods of happy memories fill my heart. Finally, we break off the kiss and she grabs my hand. Then she walks through the golden archway and I follow her. I follow my Padme, my wife, my angel into the afterworld, ready to spend the rest of eternity by her side, exactly how it should be…
The End
