O Boromir!
How many years to make a steward a king?
Never enough in Gondor.
But a steward's son put his faith in a Ring
And with it chose to wander.
With the question of a dream of a broken sword
He came to Imladris
To seek the counsel of Elrond's word.
He left with more than this:
With hope that the siege might be broken,
That Doom might not yet come
If a steward's son held a token;
With this in his heart did he roam.
But at Amon Hen the choice must be made:
On to Mordor or Minas Tirith?
Over Boromir then fell a shade:
When the Ring whispered, he could hear it.
With the Bearer alone and his people in mind
He sought to take the Ring,
But more than he bargained for did he find;
Boromir would never be king.
With the Ringbearer gone and a change in his heart,
The Orcs found Boromir.
He cut many down, but was doomed from the start:
The Horn to late did they hear.
Few have gained such a victory as Denethor's eldest son
And Gondor did not fall,
Down the Rauros-falls has Boromir gone,
But his spirit emboldens us all.
For all who wept for Boromir.
