Hey! Here is something very short that I wrote this morning, hope you enjoy...

He was lying on his back in bed with his eyes closed watching the images replay before him; his own actions that had destroyed his whole life and that of his best friend. This was how he was spending his last night human: remorse-filled and therefore sleepless.

Vlad sat up suddenly and before he had consciously consented to a decisive action, he found himself stood at his window. The black of the night sky outside reflected his face back to him in the glass. He was shocked to see how much older he looked than he remembered, having last seen himself in a mirror only a few hours ago. Recently, for reasons other than vanity, he had taken the time to stare at his own reflection whenever the opportunity had presented itself.

Illuminated by moonlight, his eyes were dark and contrasting against his milky pale skin. They made his features appear more defined, sharp and dangerous. Vlad tried smiling, thinking that this could be the last time he saw his own smile. He watched as his lips pulled back to expose teeth that had been growing ever sharper for years, but most noticeably in the last few weeks, and though they were not yet fully formed fangs, the effect was nonetheless sinister.

"Vladimir Dracula," came a voice from behind him. He felt a hand clamp firmly onto his right shoulder but saw nothing, except the fall of his smile, change in the window; his father had lost his reflection some six hundred years ago. "I am proud of you. You are to become the greatest vampire in existence. It is your destiny."

Vlad turned away from his refection to meet his father's eyes, what he was about to say felt heavy and weighted.

"I know."

He spoke solemnly, his words coinciding with the first of a series of terrible, deep booms.

"It is time, my boy."

He remained silent as the truth of his father's many times repeated words rang deep though him: you cannot escape your destiny.

I have no idea where this is going to go, if anywhere. Let me know what you think of it.

Thank you for reading!
