Jim was staring out the window contemplating Sebastian walking across the street to their car with his rifle on his back ready to finish the job he and Jim has started two months ago with a business man that tried to play them off. As he smiled at the site Jim felt a small pull on the back of his leg followed by a small giggly voice calling him.
"Daddy, pick me up, pick me up! I wanna see papa!"
Jim turned around to see three year old Jenny pulling on his suit trying to get his attention. He picked up the small child and placed her in front on the window. As he did this Sebastian looked up and saw them; he smiled and waved at the two before getting in the car and driving away.
Jenny smiled and waved back at him excitedly. They stayed by the window a few moments after the car had gone out of site. Jenny suddenly yawned and Jim turned his attention to her.
"Someone's tiered"
Jenny tried shaking her head and mumble something that sounded like "No daddy it's too early for bead" but a yawn came out of her instead.
Jim chuckled and turned away from the window still carrying Jenny on his arms towards her bedroom. Jenny tried protesting again but Jim had gotten to the room by then and was placing her down on her bed.
Jenny was exhausted, it must have been well past 9 and Jenny was falling asleep on the spot but she refused to let go of her dad's coat as he placed her on the bed and kissed her forehead. In between tiered yawns Jenny asked Jim for a bedtime story.
Jim who could not refuse his daughter anything agreed. He carefully loosened out Jenny's small grip on his coat and turned to the bookshelf next to her bed. He passed his hands through children's classics such as Winnie the Poo, Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White and many others for several moments. He wasn't convinced any of the stories on the shelf were adequate for the night.
He was about to give up and make up a story on the spot when he ran into Alice and Rumpelstiltskin; After some deciding he chose Rumpelstiltskin he picked up the book and turned to face jenny with a pleased smile on his face. He was satisfied with his choice for the night. As he turned to face his daughter he realized she had fallen asleep on him while he was choosing the story.
Jim was disappointed Jenny didn't stay up long enough for him to read the story to her but he knew she had stayed up long enough that night awaiting to say good bye to Sebastian before he went off to work. Jim pulled up the covers on Jenny, kissed her cheek and headed out of the room with the copy of Rumpelstiltskin still on his hand. He wasn't going to miss on the chance of reading that great story for the night because Jenny had fallen asleep before she heard it.
It was incredible how after he and Sebastian had adopted Jenny three years ago he had developed a taste for children stories. Something he never had the chance to do during his own childhood.
