One-shot.
"I think I should move out."
"Why?"
"I think we both know why."
"I'm not sure I do."
"Come on Ray," she sighed exasperated, "don't play dumb."
"I'm not."
"I'm married."
"Yeah…"
"Not to you."
"I am well aware of that."
"I shouldn't be living with you."
"Well you can't very well be living with your husband." She glared at him, with a 'don't go there' look. "Well you can't! Besides, it would be silly for you to get your own place."
"No it wouldn't."
"We'd both have to be paying twice the rent and not really getting twice the value. What does one person need with two bedrooms? Plus it's convenient, both financially and location-wise."
"Is that all I am to you? A convenience?"
"No, you're my friend too."
"Am I just your friend?"
"Yeah."
"What if I wasn't married?"
"But you are."
"That's why I said what if."
"So you're asking what if we were two single people? Would we just be friends?" She nodded. "Who knows?" A smile crept onto his face. "I try to keep myself from pondering it because I'd like to think not, but…"
"And that's why I need to leave," she snapped back and quickly turned and started walking away.
"Neela, wait." She stopped, but didn't turn around. "I understand that you're married. I respect that. Have I done something that makes you think otherwise?" She turned around.
"No. It's not all about you, Ray."
"Then what's the problem?"
"I need to leave, Ray," she started, her voice straining to keep her volume remaining low and steady, "because when I am with you, it makes me wonder why it was that I got married."
