Looking on the Bright Side

Chapter 1

The smell of wet copper reaches my nose, so metallic I could almost taste it and it is only then that I realize what I had done. Only then do I realize that I was holding a shard of glass in my hand, only then do I notice the pieces of my shattered mirror under my feet, crunching every time I shift my body.

I stare down at my broken reflection and I feel so incredibly disgusted with myself. The more I stare, the more disgusting I think myself. Messy Hair, Bags under my eyes…The trail of blood seeping from my wrist, slowly edging towards my finger tips where they form tiny crimson droplets before falling to floor, staining my fluffy white shag carpet and that's when I snap out of what ever trance I was in and think about what would happen if mum saw me like this.

I move forward, staggering due to all the blood I've lost and turning on the cold water so I could run my hands underneath it. I stand there and watch as my blood washes down the drains. Eventually the bleeding stops and I stumble over to the cupboard I know will have a first aid kit and I patch myself up as best as possible and cleaned up the glass and carpet trying not to think of what I had just done to myself.

I open the Bathroom door and headed for my room, which it was attached to. I slowly lowered myself onto my bed, rapping the covers over my body like a protective cocoon and closed my eyes.

'I'll never do that again' I thought to myself 'Never Again'.

Even though I said I wouldn't in the back of my head, I could hear a voice asking if that was really true just before I fell into unconsciousness.
