It was raining.
Coco liked the rain but as of late, a part of her began to despite the weather. It reminded her that she failed to protect her team. The moment that demon spawn flew above their heads, it rained upon them with large, black drops; hence the name, The Rainy Day. If there was a God, they gave her a chance to keep Velvet.
The tragedy to this story was that Velvet wasn't the same after surviving the drop. Physically and mentally. Velvet's hair has gone from dark to bleach with red markings, pale skin, and those warm chocolates now a meaningless flame of scarlets. She is like a newborn as she is silently curious about the world around her. Velvet doesn't seem to be able to speak as of now.
Coco could only hope those first words would hold meaning.
She observes the odd Faunus, who seems to have forgotten of her presence. Velvet has her fingertips pressed against the glass as she stares mindlessly into the clouded skies. Her ears flickering once, twice as the rain repeatedly lands on the window.
It was as though she were searching. Perhaps even waiting.
What for?
"Do you want to go outside?"
Velvet snaps out of her trance to gaze at Coco and the leader senses a silent plea deep beneath those hollow eyes.
"Come on. Let's get you dressed up."

The moment they step outside, umbrellas are popped open. Coco attempts to pull her hood on but Velvet shakes her head away.
"No good?"
Velvet merely blinks in response before walking ahead. Coco trusts Velvet to not go too far and she doesn't; because she eventually stops.
The umbrella blocks the upper half of Velvet which tells Coco that she had tipped it back, allowing the rain to shower her.
Whatever words Coco were about to say were swallowed the moment Velvet turned around with that smile, a smile that didn't match her eyes. The expression was disturbing, prodding at Coco as though it were laughing at her only to remind her once more.
Mockery or not, a fond memory washes over Coco. She shakes it off almost immediately. Coco couldn't afford the past to shackle her as she was present with this current Velvet; nevertheless, Coco misses Velvet.
It takes a moment but Coco finds her voice, "Let's head back."
Velvet obliges and Coco doesn't see that smile when she looks.
The smile of farewell.
