Who

Diagon Alley was bright and loud and absolutely wonderful, unless one happens to be Nymphadora Tonks. Who is being pulled along too narrow streets (past Quality Quidditch Supplies and Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor) by her mother instead of attending her cousin's twelfth birthday party with her father, eating birthday cake and ice cream until she puked (like children should). Instead she was being forced to Madam Princes' Potion Emporium (like children should never be forced to do on somebody's birthday) to commission a suppression potion.

Tonks didn't see why she needed any sort of suppression anything. She thought it rather neat that she could change the color of her hair or the shape of her nose. So did her father, but not her mother. Which is why she figured they were here instead of eating cake. Rather unfair in her opinion. One could never have too much cake.

Her gaze wondered away from her mother's back and towards the many animals in the large windows of the Magical Menagerie, wondering if she was good enough, perhaps, she would get a pet for her birthday this year. A particularly large barn owl drew in the rest of Tonks' concentration causing her to run into her mother's now still form.

With a deft hand and careless grace that only her mother seemed to possess, Tonks was spared a painful encounter with the cobblestone street only to look up and feel as though she'd fallen anyway. Standing before her was the most beautiful woman, witch or muggle, Tonks had ever seen.

Tall and slender like her mother, but with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes the color of crayons. Tonks' eyes slid down to the baby carriage the beautiful witch was pushing and the tiny baby inhabiting it. Large gray eyes stared back.

Both witches were silent for a long while, just looking at each other like cowboys do in the movies that she watches with her father on the telly; each waiting for the other to draw their six-shooters and bang! Finally, her mother spoke,

"It's been a while, hasn't it?"

"Yes. It has."

"I see congratulations are in order."

Both looked down at the baby who looked pleased at the new attention. The blonde which smiled and smoothed down the fuzz that covered the baby's head, "Yes, I-" She looked back up and something in her face changed, like she'd been caught doing something that she shouldn't be doing by the person who told her not to do it. Tonks was familiar with that look. "Thank you."

Tonks looked up to see her mother nod politely. "Good afternoon." The hand on her shoulder tightened a bit and Tonks was lead away down to the cobblestones towards Princes' Potion Emporium and away from the witch that her mother knew.

Tonks glanced back, stumbling slightly when her feet forgot to keep on going forwards, watching until the witch was swallowed up by the crowd. Curious she glanced up at her mother and asked, "Who was that?"

"No one, darling. Now come along."
