Prologue
Vivian sat dumbly in the chair she'd been lovingly pressed into, still struggling to process the events that had led up to this moment. As the fabled Dragonborn of legend, she had been witness to many things that were impossible. Accomplished things that should have been impossible. Perhaps it was simply because she was fated to do so. Or blessed with Luck. Cursed with it, even. One never did know for certain...
What was certain, was that she was sitting, half-dressed and gloriously rumpled, in her kitchen with MERCER FREY humming nothing in particular, while braiding flowers into her hair...
She pinched herself to be sure.
It hurt.
Not dreaming, then.
The man sucked his teeth in disapproval and came around to take the injured arm in his hand. After a brief inspection, he lifted her wrist to his lips and placed the softest of kisses there. His stormy grey eyes burned into hers, and her throat went dry.
Oh, Divines...!
Her lips parted of their own accord, as a faint gasp escaped. His eyes darkened in want, and he closed the distance to taste her...
The telltale scraping of a lock being picked reached their ears. An intruder!
A sensible person would have armed themselves, or even barricaded the door. But Mercer Frey was not a normal person. Where a normal person would have gone on the defensive, he went on the attack. Unfortunately, at this moment, the focus of said attack was on her.
The hand that had held her so gently not a moment before seized her wrist and practically threw Vivian against the table, sending food and flowers in all directions. He grabbed her waist and made as though to tear into her skirts when the door finally opened...

The second man froze in shock in the doorway. The former Guildmaster simply sneered at him. "Don't you have better things to do than disturb me?"
Well, that snapped the Nord out of his stupor right quick.
