Very short fic I wrote on a whim. 8D Review, fave, do whatever you want with it!
He often watches her when she isn't looking, and more often when she is.
But right now she's looking at him with all of the intensity of the stars in the sky.
And he can't bear to look away.
He stares into her eyes and he sees his love reflected there.
But he doesn't understand.
He clasps her arms, bringing himself close to get her to understand the situation they're facing.
"Once the breach collapses, that's it. You will never be able to see her again. Your own mother!"
The look she gives him tears at his soul because he's seen that look before and he's terrified of that look.
He's more scared of that look than he's scared of the Daleks, of the Cybermen, of losing even Rose herself.
She loves him.
He knows just by that one simple look what she'll say next.
"I made my choice a long time ago, and I'm never gonna leave you."
She keeps her body still, and he can feel the tremendous strength she has when she says that without moving, but her voice trembles and he knows that it's taking a lot out of her to make herself calm.
That's when what she's said sinks in.
She's willing to give up Jackie and Pete and Mickey to stay with him.
His hearts, already thrumming powerfully with the adrenaline of the moment, beat a quicker tone as he realizes.
Rose puts him above Jackie; he sits in a place higher than Pete; he's always had a higher standing than Mickey but even that makes him want to shiver.
He pulls away from Rose, his Rose, slowly, as his mind figures out what to do with what she's told him.
Rose looks at him and says plaintively, "So what can I do to help?"
He can't think straight and he needs to think straight because right now things are life and death, more importantly Rose's life or death.
The computer picks up where his slow mind cannot and it jump-starts his brain.
He cannot think about Rose or what to do with her right now, because now he knows where he's got to put her, and that's with her family, not with him (no matter how much it pains him).
Because she's not his, not truly; she can never be his.
"Those co-ordinates over there, set them all at six," He says quickly to make up for his lack of speech earlier.
He's happy now that he knows what to do with Rose.
He's happy now that he knows that she'll be safe.
"And hurry up," He calls to her, noting that she takes off her medallion, a way of wordlessly telling him that she won't leave him.
He watches her even though she's turned away from him and he can't imagine a better woman to spend time with.
She'll leave him, though, and it'll be by his own doing.
He'll worry about that later, though.
Right now he's got worlds to save.
And, like always, he needs Rose's help.
