Hey everyone. This story is for the Snape Appreciation Challenge on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I choose to write for Shelf 2, 5. Draught of Peace. The task for that was to write a post war fic. I also posted this for Super Drabble. I think that this fits the bill. Mentions of a character death. I hope you all enjoy Daily Update.
He stood over the grave of his brother Fred looking at the tombstone that was now what was left of his other half. He could feel the tears sting his eyes as he sat down next to the cold stone.
"Hey Fred," he said not expecting a reply because that would be ridiculous. "You'd so proud of our little brother. He's taken over helping run the store." He chuckled to himself as he remembered a deal Ron had just made earlier that day to supply Zonko's with Wealsey Wizard Wheezes items. It had netted a lot of money for them. "He made a brilliant deal with Zonko's. One you'd have made actually."
He stopped talking as he heard the snap of a twig come from behind him. Pulling his wand because you could never be to awfully careful even with the Dark Lord defeated he turned toward the sound. He laughed to himself as he saw the other boy walking towards him. The boy he had been talking to Fred about. Ron. Their brother.
"I could have taken your head off," he called in Ron's direction as the boy picked his towards him through the rows of headstones in the cemetery. "You know that? Right?"
"Yeah. Yeah," Ron said as joined George next Fred's headstone. "What are you doing here?"
"Just updating Fred on the store." He wiped a tear from his eyes as he watched Ron take over the story. He must have heard what George had been telling him. Ron started up right where George had left off.
Ron then told Fred that he asked Hermione to marry him and that she'd said yes. They were getting to be very busy with wedding planning and what have but he always made time for the store.
"Well," Ron said standing up and brushing off his pants, "I guess I will see you later then, Fred." He patted the stone with Fred's name on before turning back the way he'd come from. Before he disappeared from view he turned around and called back, "Mum is expecting you and Angelina around five."
When he was sure that his younger brother was gone and no one else was around George Weasley allowed himself to break down. "They say we're lucky because we survived," he told the cold stone next to him. "They're wrong. We aren't lucky because we lost the people who meant the most to us. We lost a lot more than they can know." He threw his arms around the stone in the hug he should have been able to bestow on the brother whose name it held before getting up and dusting himself off. "Angelina sends her love by the way. The kids too." He chuckled. "Your namesake is a lot like we were at his age. He'd make you proud." He sighed. "I have to go. Mum'll be mad if I'm there on time. See you later, Fred."
He slowly made his way out of the cemetery sorrow and pain coursing through his veins.
I hope you all enjoyed Daily Update. I can totally see Ron and George updating Fred's tombstone on the progress of the store and how their lives are going after the war. I think I enjoy writing for George Weasley. He's very easy to write for.
