A/N: This is a new story that I am in the middle of writing. It's an all human story and I hope you like it!
Daydreams
Chapter One
The Big News
Bella's Point of View
"Carlisle, can you pass the pie?" asked Rosalie. We were all seated around the Cullen's dining room table; Emse and Carlisle; Jasper and Alice; Emmett and Rosalie; Ben and Angela; and, of course, Edward and I. Esme had cooked us a wonderful diner, and we were all enjoying ourselves. We had gotten together over winter break from the University of Washington Seattle, the college all of us attended. The Cullen's could have gone to a better college, they had the money, but they wanted to stay close to home. I took another bite of the cherry pie that Angela had brought and saw the beautiful golden ring on my left hand glitter in the pale light of the sunset. I grinned, laughing at how silly my whole dread of the wedding had been. Edward looked at me warmly and smiled my favorite crooked smile; his stunning green eyes alight with happiness. He took my hand and squeezed it gently.
"I love you," he whispered in my ear, his breath making my spine tingle.
"I love you more," I whispered back, laughing quietly. He joined in on my laughter and grinned even wider.
"Whatever you say, love. You know that you are my life. You mean everything to me, and you always will." I blushed. Would I ever get used to his unyielding love? I doubted I would, even if I could live forever. I laughed at the thought. Wouldn't that be the perfect life? Me and Edward, together forever.
Edward and I had been married almost five months ago, and we still lived in a small apartment near the school. I had nothing against our apartment, but I longed for a home to call our own. A home where Edward and I could raise a family and live in till we were old and grey. I could see us fifty years from now, rocking on our front porch, holding hands and drinking lemonade. I saw the pale blue siding and white shudders on the windows, and the wide expanses of the forest that I knew and loved in our backyard. A huge oak tree was planted in the front yard and a worn looking tire swing hung from its limbs. I never would have pictured this a year ago, but everything seemed to have changed since I met Edward. It seemed like only a few days ago that we first met in Biology class…
It was my first day at Forks High School. I had moved in with my father after my mother had gotten remarried, but now I was miserable. I felt so trapped under the rain clouds that always covered the sky here. But I trudged through the rain and dealt with it. Complaining would get me nowhere. All day people had been staring and whispering but I tried to ignore them. A few people had started following me like lost puppies. It was strange, since no one gave me the time of day back in Phoenix. I had managed my first day well so far, and Biology was up next. I walked into the brick building, hung up my black raincoat on a peg on the back wall. I walked up to the teacher and he directed me to the only empty seat in the room, the one right next to Edward Cullen. I sat down and felt like I couldn't breathe. He was the most beautiful person on the planet, he had to be. His amazing green eyes sparkled. His face was full of life and his bronze hair glittered with rain as he introduced himself.
"Hello, my name is Edward Cullen," he began. "You must be Isabella?"
"Bella," I answered automatically.
"Bella…" he said slowly. "I like it." And, like always, I blushed. From that moment on, all I could think about was Edward. And for some strange reason, he felt that way about me. I had yet to figure it out. He was well, perfect, and I was clumsy, plain Bella. But I had no problem with it now, unlike I used to. I had just learned to appreciate the fact that he loved me for who I am.
"Hey, are you two lovebirds done over there?" Emmett's voice broke through my thoughts, making me jump and hit my arm on the table. I could tell that I would have a bruise in the morning, but I laughed, and so did Edward beside me. Angela was fidgeting excitedly, and Ben grabbed her hand.
Angela seemed to wait for a lag in conversation before she spoke. "I have… well I have something to tell to you all," she began somewhat timidly. She took a deep breath and said, more enthusiastically, "Ben and I are getting married!" Alice, Rose, and I screamed and started jumping up and down with Angela, who was blushing and smiling hugely. "Alice, I'm trusting your judgment on this one. Don't do anything too drastic!" she giggled.
Alice screamed and jumped up and down some more. "Oh thank you, thank you!" she said, ecstatic. I knew this was right up Alice's alley. She couldn't have done a better job at my wedding, and I knew Angela's would be just as breath-taking. I smiled and turned to Edward.
"Who's gong to rein her in this time?" I whispered in his ear. He knew as well as I did that no one would be able to do anything to stop her. He smiled my crooked smile.
"Well, let's hope that Angela knew what she was getting into when she let Alice do this!" he laughed.
We hung around the Cullen house for a while, till the excitement died down and Angela and Ben headed home. We hugged Esme and Carlisle good-bye and headed towards our car, the shiny silver Volvo I once wanted to smash, during one of my particularly violent moods. Edward opened the door for me and held it open. I got in and he walked over to open his own door this time, and sat down. "I always forget how much fun your family is," I said. "It's nice to see Esme and Carlisle again. It feels like forever since we've come to visit!"
"We should definitely try to come more often," Edward agreed. I looked at him, wondering how to phrase my next thoughts. I hesitated, and then began.
"Edward, how would you feel about getting our own house?" I asked, carefully gauging his reaction. He smiled, an extremely good sign.
"I've actually been thinking about that lately, too. We're would you like to live?" he asked me, his eyes alight with excitement.
"Well, I think we should live closer to Charlie, Esme and Carlisle. And Jake, too. I hate being so far away from him."
"Yeah, I agree. Where was he tonight, do you know?"
"I think he said he was getting dinner with this girl he met at the park. Lizzie, I think her name was. From what I heard, she sounds perfect for Jake." I smiled. I always felt bad for choosing Edward over Jacob, but I never loved Jake that way. He was my best friend, nothing more. I was truly grateful that he had found someone.
"That's good," Edward said. "I'm glad he's finally given up on the idea that you would fall for him! Where would that have left me?" I giggled. I was sure I had made the right choice. There was not doubt in my mind.
"Yeah, Jake said she was really into cars, just like him. And she's really pretty, according to him."
Edward laughed. "She would be nothing compared to you. You're nothing short of beautiful." I blushed, causing him to laugh again. "Especially when you do that," he chuckled, poking my tomato-red nose playfully with his finger.
We laughed for a while longer, and then settled into a comfortable silence. I was reminiscing in our early days, when it hit me. "Edward!" I gasped. "I thought of the perfect place!" I looked at him, eager to tell him my idea, but also wanting to build up his curiosity. I gave up on building, and continued. "The meadow! Remember the one you took me to? We could have the meadow in our backyard, what do you think?" I looked up at his face, and saw that he looked thoughtful.
"That is the perfect place. Absolutely perfect. We'll have to cut down a bunch of trees to make the driveway, and a place for the house, but that is the perfect place!" He seemed genuinely excited about the idea of our own house. The rest of the drive back to campus, we were discussing plans for the house. Our own house.
