Rolf and Shinon

"Dang it" Rolf muttered when the arrow he had launched missed the target and got stuck in a nearby tree. He had been practicing with his bow for at least two hours and had only hit the target six times out of the sixty arrows he had launched, but when he did get a hit they landed on the outside of the target on the white rings, not once had he gotten a bull's-eye. By now his fingers were blistery and he was about ready to quit, all he wanted was to be able to help his friends in this war but he was sure that they all considered him a burden…well maybe not all of them… there was Shinon, the only one who was willing to train him. Most people called Shinon a jerk, but Rolf admired him even if he was kinda mean, he had given him his first bow and had taught him how to use it after all.

Rolf sighed as he readied another arrow and let it fly…just as he though, a miss.
"You know, you'd get a lot more hits if your hands weren't so shaky,"
Rolf turned to see who had said that "Uncle Shinon!"
"And try to take a little more time lining up your shots" Shinon said, and standing a good distance away from the target, he fired two arrows with lightning fast speed and deadly accuracy, a perfect bull's-eye, with the second arrow splitting the first one straight in half.
"How'd you do that? It didn't even look like you stopped to line it up!" Rolf Shouted, in total admiration.
Shinon turned to Rolf who was standing with his mouth open and his gaze glued to the arrow Shinon had split "Once you've done this a while you just get a feel for it."
"Do you think you could show me how to do that?" Rolf asked.
Shinon sighed and rubbed his fore-head. "Did you hear anything I just said?"
Rolf stopped looking at the arrows and instead turned to look at the ground, "Sorry…" he muttered sadly.
"It's fine Rolf," Shinon started as an attempt to make sure Rolf didn't cry. "Look why don't I show you a few things?"
Brightening up almost instantly, Rolf replied. "Really?"
"Really." Shinon replied with what could have been mistaken for a smile, but it's possible that no one will ever know…

It's moments like this Rolf loved, Shinon teaching him "the way of the bow" and even though he wouldn't admit it Shinon enjoyed it to, just him and Rolf, student and teacher, uncle and nephew.
