Kol and Elijah sat at the bar in The Grill, Kol pushing drink after drink into Elijah's hands. They had been there for what felt like, to Kol, hours. In fact, it probably was hours. It wasn't like they had anything better to do – they were Originals, after all.
"Why are you doing this to me, Kol?" slurred Elijah, throwing back another shot.
"Because, brother," replied Kol, patting Elijah on the back, "you are depressed. And you should go talk to Elena. Look at her over there," gestured Kol, pointing toward the pool table where Elena was lining up her shot.
Elijah smacked his glass down on the bar and stood up, smoothing his shirt. He stifled a giggle for no other reason than drunkenness. "How do I look?"
"Marvelous, brother," laughed Kol, shaking his head at his inebriated brother. "Now go and get her."
Elijah walked quite gracefully for a drunk vampire over to Elena who was waiting for Caroline to take her shot.
"Elena Gilbert," said Elijah formally and bowed to Elena. He popped back up and took her hand and kissed it. "Would you care for a drink?"
Elena spluttered for a moment at the drunk Original who stood before her. "Er . . . sure," she said after Caroline made furious gestures for her to go with him.
Elijah held out his arm for her and led her up to the bar and ordered her some fruity drink he thought she'd enjoy. By this time, Kol had left the bar to join Caroline's game of pool, and they both watched Elena and Elijah intently.
"Would you like to accompany me home?" Elijah asked after Elena had finished her drink. It was the worst pass at a woman Elijah had ever delivered, but he had no intentions of getting her into bed, and Elena seemed to sense that.
"Sure," she said slightly hesitantly. She let Elijah escort her out of The Grill and into his car, a sleek, black Aston Martin.
When they arrived at Elijah's house, they found it deserted. Elijah led her into the living room, and by this time, he was considerably sobered up. Alcohol didn't stay in vampires' systems nearly as long as it did humans'.
Elena noticed the grand piano in the corner of the room. It was white, sleek, and shiny, and Elena loved it. Elijah noticed her eyeing it.
"Would you like me to play you a song?" he asked quietly.
Elena turned to look at him. She hadn't known Elijah played the piano. "Sure," she said happily.
Elijah walked over to the piano and seated himself at the matching stool. His fingers deftly found the keys he was searching for and he began to play the most beautiful piece Elena had ever heard. When he finished the song, Elena wiped tears from her eyes.
"That was beautiful," she sniffed.
"As are you," Elijah responded. Neither he nor Elena could believe that he'd just said that. "I suppose you had better get home," Elijah said after a moment or two of shocked silence.
"Yeah," she said quietly.
When they arrived at Elena's house, Elijah walked her to the door and landed a small, soft, sweet kiss on her lips.
"Good night, fair Elena."
