Drabble – Crash

Alexander was a mess. He was tired, overworked and stressed to the limit. It was only a matter of time until it all became too much and he would crash. Hephaestion wanted to be around to pick up the pieces.

He followed his King down the hallway listening to him give orders to several people who were walking with them and trying to keep up with the fast-moving king. Alexander was running on reserves and Hephaestion knew he would soon be empty, that is if he let himself. Hephaestion had never met a more stubborn man in his entire life.

Running to catch up with his fleeing friend, Hephaestion almost ran him over when Alexander made an abrupt stop when he turned to see if Hephaestion was still behind him. Alexander grabbed him to keep him from falling unceremoniously on the floor and then grinned at him before he released him to continue down the hallway. Hephaestion grumbled as they dashed ahead.

They entered a room and Alexander again began assigning tasks. The room was a center of activity making even Hephaestion's head spin. Finally, when there was a tiny break in the activity, Hephaestion stood in front of Alexander. Alexander began to talk but Hephaestion quieted him with a simple kiss. When he was done, Alexander began talking again only to find the lips against his own one more time.

After a few more, the King began to relax and return them. Thinking it was just a game, Alexander failed to notice when Hephaestion waved the others out of the room. They gratefully left their overactive King and his many job assignments that would take hours and even days to complete.

Hephaestion continued to kiss Alexander as he backed him up to the couch and placed him gently on it. Alexander tried to get up, saying he had so much work to do but Hephaestion wouldn't let him up, much to the King's displeasure. That is until he began to soothe the overworked nerves and tired body.

The King fell asleep long before things could progress too far. Short sleepless nights and long hard days had taken their toll and soon he was snoring quietly in a deep slumber.

The palace became quiet again, smiles of gratitude greeted Hephaestion as he left the room as another royal crash was averted. A few moments of peace was enjoyed by all.
