Prologue

Once the sun had finally set over the great city, night was the time when their kind was known to come alive.

No longer having to wait around in the confines of their havens, they were allowed to linger about without worry.

For over a millennia their kind walked alongside mortals without them ever knowing of their existence. And just like any creature that valued life–they did what they had to do, in order to ensure their survival.

However, in a time, when finding a mate (especially, a female) was scarce; at times it drove some of the few who didn't have someone to great desperation. Therefore, if a male was able to find a compatible female–then he must do whatever it took to claim her for his own.

He recalled greatly the last time, he'd been in New York City–nothing really had changed, except for its inhabitants. It was now past midnight and he still walked the streets; a normal person wouldn't be out and about in the dead of night–yet he did not fear the darkness nor those that walked it with him.

Yet, tonight of all nights–he'd been drawn out into to the dark streets of the big city; for something was beckoning him far from his natural domain. Ignoring the usual sights and sounds of what surrounded him–all he could hear was the loud wailing of a human child.

And that cry was calling to him.

Apart of him could simply ignore it and go back to his refuge; or he could follow and see where the sound would lead him to.

Of course, in following the siren's call, he would be bound by fate to the one who suddenly would have power over him.
