Through the Years, Letters of the Black Brothers

Sirius and Regulus Black got along quite well when they were kids, until house pride got in the way, along with loyalty to their pureblood family. These are the letters written back and forth between them starting in Sirius' first year at Hogwarts.

1 September 1970

Dear Regulus,

You probably won't get this note until I'm already at Hogwarts.

I'm just writing to tell you I'm going to miss you and I promise to stay in touch, 'kay? Be good! Oh, who am I kidding, you're always good. We'll change that once we're in Hogwarts together! Promise!

I'm nervous about what house I'll get into. Hufflepuff sounds boring, and so does Ravenclaw. I know every pureblood in our family has been in Slytherin, but… don't tell Mum, but I want to be in Gryffindor! It sounds like it's really fun and they're really brave and cool from what I've heard at least.

Anyway, I really miss you already! Send me an owl soon, okay?

Dear Sirius,

You want to be in Gryffindor? Are you crazy? Mum will kill you!

Either way, I hope you have fun at Hogwarts. I miss you a lot already. The house feels a lot bigger and emptier without you around causing trouble. I can't wait until you come back for the summer.
