"Mmmm… It's so beautiful here." Mika SeaBrook murmured as she walked through the forest behind the Higurashi shrine. Then, she felt an odd feeling, almost as if she was 'sensing' something in a way she couldn't describe. Following the feeling, Mika entered the mini-shrine that housed the old 'Bone-eaters Well'. She wandered around the shrine, and then climbed down into the pit the well was in. she explored for a moment, started to leave, and then decided to peer into the well. As she approached it, she tripped on something. Mika stooped and picked it up, then dropped it again. It was a bone. Giving voice to a frightened shriek, she leaped backwards to get away from the grisly relic of a dead something. When she jumped, her legs collided with the side of the well. She lost her balance, teetered on the edge for a moment, and then toppled backwards into the well. She braced herself for the impact, but for some odd reason, it took longer than she'd expected. Still, the force of her landing was enough to knock the breath from her body. For a few minutes, she just lay on the bottom of the well, stunned. When she'd assured herself that she had not broken any bones, Mika scrambled up the steep side of the well, with the help of an overhanging vine, and out into… Whoa. I must've hit my head she thought. Instead of the inside of the mini-shrine, she saw a thick forest. Off to my left she saw a flickering light. "Well, that could prove useful. Maybe there are people near that light." Mika walked toward the glow, then, when she could see that the light was from a campfire, something rather large and quite heavy catapulted into her and tackled her to the ground.
"Eeek! What is it!"
"He went after something!" the sound of people running through bushes could be heard, then two people and what looked like a small dog burst from the underbrush. Mika was hoping that these people would get this thing off of her, as it was sitting on her chest/stomach and was making breathing extremely difficult.
"InuYasha! Get off! It's a human and it has no shards."
"But it was sneaking up on us!" Mika's captor protested. The voice from it was male.
"Who cares? Get off him!" he got off. Mika sat up quickly, gasping for breath.
"What the heck was that for!" She shrieked, once she'd regained the ability to speak.
"Come to the fire. We can explain there." The girls voice said. Feeling very confused, Mika followed her. When they got to the fire, Mika sat down; once there, the firelight washed over her new acquaintances. "Whoa!" she yelped. The boy who had been seated on her chest had very long silvery-white hair, golden eyes, claws, and dog-like ears. The thing she'd believed to be a small dog was a child, short, with dog paws where his feet should be.
"What are they!" Mika cried, backing away.
"They're safe. We should introduce ourselves. I'm Kagome, the half dog-demon is InuYasha, the fox demon cub is Shippo-"
"I'm not a cub!"
" And the monk is Miroku." Mika glanced around tentatively, then noticed InuYasha coming towards her, nose twitching.
"Hmmmm... Girl, you smell of Kagome's world."
"What?"
"He's got a good nose." Kagome said, "I guess it comes from being part dog-demon. You're dressed in modern clothes; did you fall into the well?"
"Yeah. I did."
"Well, that explains that. You're in the Era of the Warring States. The well enables some to travel back and forth between now and our time."
"Well, seeing as that's the only logical explanation I've heard, okay."
