They never called each other by name.
"Kuro-tan!"
"Shut up, mage."
Fai had smiled idiotically, staring into the warrior's face.
If they used each other's names, they would implicate each other into their lives. They would become important. Much more important than Syaoran and Sakura.
So they never acknowledged the other's existence.
His head was so cold it felt hot. The rest of his body was changing, and the blood that he had tasted with disgust now was so sweet that it branded his tongue.
He is my bait.
He gripped harder at the arms that engulfed him, shoulders shaking with the pain and the effort it took to stare directly into the warrior's eyes, unsmiling, giving nothing to make the what he'd done condoned by himself.
And then he fell.
He looked up towards the door with his lone eye, feeling the smoldering fire of vengeance (it had been so long since he had felt an emotion that was warm).
"Morning, 'Kurogane'."
The taboo was broken.
Fai was smiling.
"Oy. Yuui."
Fai hadn't heard his name in so long that he only looked up out of shock.
"…What?"
"Yuui. That's your name, right?" Kurogane stared at him with those unnerving crimson eyes.
Fai blinked, and then looked away. "…Yes."
Fai was smiling.
