So, this idea came to me just now. How would Katniss react to a novel like P&P?

"It is a truth universally acknowledge that a single man in possession of good fortune must be in want of a wife"...

Katniss read the first sentence of the book she first picked up with disdain, Peeta had insisted on buying the whole collection of new release classics and she didn't have the heart to contradict him, but now she was uncertain of their usefulness.

She had a fair share of adventures in her life to ever want to escape the happy reality she was now living. She thought her story with Peeta would hardly make a good romance story, there was too much suffering in it. Not that she mind. She had learned to come to terms with their life a long time ago. So why would she want to read something that was never even a possibility to her?

But why Peeta had to insist in buy everything from the new collections of the discoveries the exploration party had found? Katniss just didn't understand.

It turns out that the hopefulness of a few people up in the government had paid off. The party sent to explore the unknowns parts of the continent had found rests of houses that have survived the war. Inside those houses they found countless of remanents of the life of its old habitants. Including movies, books and music that had been banned when Panem was created. The government thought appropriate to publish the discoveries in the hope of recovering once more something that Panem had taken away from them.

So now here she was, after promising Peeta that she would at least try to read some of them. He had suggested the one called Pride and Prejudice, told her that it kind of remained him of their past, how miscommunication and misconception had got the better of them.

With that start, she didn't know what was going around Peeta's head to ever consider this a book that she would be interested in. But the thought of failing him kept her from putting the book down. She trusted him with her life, she certainly could trust his judgement in books, right?

..."However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters."

Mmm, OK. She could say to Peeta that she had read the start of the book, which was not a lie, technically. She could say to him she had not had time to read too much of it. And with that she put the book back in its place and left in search of her hunting gear.

I started writing this thinking of how Katniss would feel about P&P, but later I realised that Katniss is not a regular woman, I don't think she would fall for that kind of romance book. She wouldn't waste her time with it.

I'll mark it as completed because I don't know if I will feel like exploring more of this prompt. Maybe I will write a second attempt, who knows.

Enjoy and leave feedback if you can.
